The first venue of the 2012 Midland Horseshoe Pitching League got underway recently in Tegral Sportsfield Athy.
There was a big turnout of pitchers, getting the League off to a good start. After some tremendous games the winners were Gerry Hyland and Jimmy Mackey. They beat Paddy Byrne and Jim Kelly 21-18 in the final. The losers group was won by Pat Leigh and Denis Ryan who had a few aces to spare over Paddy Laffan and Eddie Murphy.
The second evening of the League was again well supported with all the pitchers getting into their stride the pitching was out of the top drawer. Gerry Hyland was again to the fore with his partner Pat Leigh. They beat Pat Ward and John Pierce 21-12 in the final. In the losers group final Jimmy Mackey and Denis Ryan just scraped through against Paddy Byrne and Sean O’Connor on a 21-19 scoreline.
The third evening of the League again took place in Tegral Sportsfied on Wednesday 23rd May. As with the previous two League evenings there was a marvellous turnout of pitchers.
Gerry Hyland was again in tip top form ably assisted by Pat Ward they cruised through to the final where they came up against Sean O’Connor and Denis Ryan. This was a real dinger of a game with ace for ace all the way to the finish with one ace seperating the pairs in favour of Hyland and Ward. The losers group was won by Pat Leigh and Paddy Byrne who beat John Pierce and Eddie Murphy in the final 21-15.
