Two junior members from Portarlington Taekwon Do school were recently promoted to First Degree black belt.

Jason Keogh Grincell and Donnchadh Stobie took their First Dan Black Belt grading on Sunday, December 4 in Kilkenny under the INTA grading panel of Master Brendan O’Toole, 8th Degree, Master Val Douglas, 7th Degree, and Master Gerry Martin, 7th Degree.

The grading started at 10am with the candidates being tested in the first session on fundamental movements, Patterns, 3,2,1 and step sparring, followed by self defence techniques. Later in the day the boys took to the floor again for free sparring, performing excellently against a number of other grading candidates.

After sparring, all the grading candidates were called to the examiners table one by one and tested on their knowledge and theory of Taekwon Do, then sent to perform their power test techniques of standing and flying side kick techniques, which presented no difficultly to either of the boys.

After a short deliberation all candidates were given their results and presented with their Black Belts. Both Donnchadh and Jason have both had great success as colour belts and will continue to do so as black belts.

Mr Nigel Stobie Chief Instructor of Portarlington Taekwon Do School was also graded in the afternoon and has successfully been promoted to 6th Dan Black Belt. Many Thanks to the INTA Examiners Committee and congratulations to all involved as you continue to build Portarlington Taekwon Do School from strength to strength!
