For the second time in three years, Clough-Ballacolla and Portlaoise will face each other down on county final day, the last two teams left standing after an open and exciting 2011 Laois senior hurling championship.

On the last occasion these sides met, back in 2009, Ballacolla were in search of history, without a title in over 90 years and desparate to cap the outstanding underage success of the early part of this century with a senior title. With that objective now achieved, they are back once again, eager to regain the title they surrendered meekly to Rathdowney-Errill at the semi-final stage last year.

For now, it looks like a clash of styles awaits. Clough-Ballacolla have run up an impressive 16-74 in their six games to date, while Portlaoise have built their success on a teak-tough defence.
