St Abban's athlete Sarah Buggy was the big winner for the club at the All-Ireland Junior Indoor Championships in Nenagh at the weekend, as she claimed a gold medal in the triple jump.

St Abban's have been awash with talent in the jumping events in recent times, and Buggy is the latest name to be added to the lost of All-Ireland winners, as her jump of 11.30m on her first attempt was enough to secure the title. She had 30cm to spare over second placed Aoife Bartley from Carrick on Suir, with Sinead O'Connor from Tralee back in third.

Buggy wasn't the only one to leave with a medal, as Nessa Millett also made it onto the podium, this time in the long jump. She was just edged into third place in a very competitive event with a jump of 5.39m, with Sarah McCarthy of Fingallians winning with a jump of 5.48m. Ciara Giles Doran of Ferrybank was second in 5.43m, as just 9cm separated the top three. Millett also ran in the 400m, but missed out on a place in the final by just 0.8 seconds.

Elsewhere in the ladies events, Siobhan Nash came sixth in the 3k walk, while Emma Daly also came sixth in shot putt.

For the boys, while there were no medals making their way back to the club, there were still some impressive performances. Conor Daly came fifth in the high jump (1.75m) and sixth in the triple jump (12.19m), while Craig Coffey came ninth in the high jump (1.65m) and eighth in the long jump (5.26m). Denis Brophy missed out on a place in the 200m final by the same margin as Millett, 0.8 seconds, after posting a time of 25.33 seconds.
