New table tennis kids on the block Ballyroan pulled of an amazing result by taking the Irish U-13 girls team title in this years community games.

A golden result for the team of Emily McWey, Kate Whelan, Deborah Corcoran and Emily Ward. The event which was staged in Ferbane saw them overcome Killarney South in the semi final on a 4-1 scoreline followed by a similar scoreline in the final where Bunninadden of Sligo were their opponents.

Only in existence two years and with a number of table tennis wizards breaking through Ballyroan is fast making inroads into top level Irish table tennis.

Meanwhile, Mountrath U-16 Girls team of Amylou, Katie and Jessie Hayes and Leanne Delaney put in a credible performance on taking bronze in the finals. In the semi-final they came up against a superb Killarney team consisting of leading Munster and Irish players in Valentina Puotkalyte, Lynn O’Shea, Brielle Brady and Clare O’Shea, and despite giving a fantastic performance the girls from the Kingdom took the result on a 4-2 scoreline.

They later followed it up with a 4-0 win over Killeevan ( Monaghan) in the final while Mountrath had a comfortable 4-0 win over Cong (Mayo) to pick up all Ireland bronze. Both Laois clubs are coached by Jimmy Hayes who was delighted with their achievements.
