Members of Laois Marlins Swim Club once again had a very productive weekend at the ESB Gala in the Sportsco Center, Dublin. The Portlaoise based club was represented by 13 swimmers from the A and B squads, ranging in age from 8 to 16. The standard of swimming was very high from each of the 22 participating clubs.
Mick Carroll took silver in the 100M breaststroke. Eight year old girls Ellen Donoghue and Toni Dolan swam in the U-10s but were placed in the top three of all eight year olds, while Aidan Nealon and Jordan Overton achieved particularly impressive times.
According to Club Coach Irina Dawson. “All the participants had fantastic swims and were delighted to shave seconds off their personal best times.”
Club Treasurer, Padraic Dolan, who was Team Manager on day one of the gala said. “The dedicated training and endurance shown by all club members, week by week, is helping them to achieve their own personal goals.”
“There was a great club spirit at the gala,” he continued. ”All swimmers showed great respect, and are a credit to themselves, their families and their club. A fun, enjoyable and exciting day was had by all - participants, parents and coaches alike.”
Meanwhile, all involved in the Club are very much looking forward to this weekend as a record number of four swimmers - Ellen Donoghue, Toni Dolan, Conor Donoghue and Mathew Doyle - will compete in the All-Ireland Schools Finals in Galway, and a huge number of swimmers from all squads will take part in the Christmas Gala at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin.
On behalf of Laois Marlins, Coach Irina Dawson wishes to extend a welcome to all new swimmers, at both competitive and non-competitive levels, who are looking for fun, fitness, friendship and a new social event in their lives.
