Laois’ hopes of a second brace of league points were dashed at O’Moore Park on Saturday night, as All Ireland champions Dublin overcame a shaky start to come good with a commanding second-half display as their full forward line turned on the style with a magnificent scoring return.
It all looked so good for Laois in the opening half as they played a refreshing brand of attacking football and swept into an early three point lead to edge ahead 0-4 to 0-1 after just nine minutes of play.
Even when the Dubs came back with three unanswered points to level by the 16th minute, Laois responded in style again to lead by 0-6 to 0-4 by the 25th minute of the half.
Unfortunately, at this stage Laois lost Clancy to injury and suddenly the Laois attacking threat evaporated, and they were not to score again for all of 29 minutes. In that spell Dublin tacked on six unanswered points to lead by four and they kept up the pressure to run out comfortable winners.
