Mountmellick Christmas Fair takes place on Sunday December 4 this year, and the hard working committee is inviting everyone to get into the festive spirit early, at their fundraising table quiz in The Druid Inn on Friday November 18 at 9pm.
Prizes aplenty are on offer at the annual quiz, with quizmaster Michael Lenihan on hand to test the hardiest brain. Tables are €20.
This is the fifth year for the volunteer run Christmas Fair, and it again promises the best of locally handcrafted festive gifts, ornaments, baked and hot treats.
With 50 stalls booked out well in advance, organisers have carefully chosen a varied mix that will offer something for everyone.
“We have baking, wool crafts, decorations, jewellery, yule logs, floral displays and a good variety of gifts, with everything local and handmade,” said chairperson Niamh Lynch.
With the town’s famed 65ft Christmas tree as the perfect centrepiece, visitors can relax in a festive atmosphere with a cup of mulled wine, and a cosy Santa’s Grotto, where either Santa or Mrs Claus will be waiting to meet children of all ages.
“We will again have our fun bus, and facepainting, and we are delighted to welcome choirs from the church and the community school, and entertainment by local groups,” said Niamh.
The committee will also be selling draw tickets for a giant hamper and other prizes, to be awarded on the day.
“Come along between 2 and 6pm, have a wander around and enjoy some hot food and the Christmas atmosphere, all around our lovely tree, it’s the perfect location for a fair, and a great day out,” said Niamh.
