Mountmellick Community School students present the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in the school from Wednesday November 27 to Friday 29, at 7.30pm. Tickets from school and O’Gorman’s, €8 adults, €5 students and oaps, €20 family (2 adults, 2 children). Children’s matinee on Wednesday.

Feighery Gathering

The Feighery gathering took place in Shinrone last month, with 80 members coming from 13 counties including Laois, and the UK and USA.

A mass was celebrated by Fr John Feighery, SVD Dublin assisted by Fr Michael Reddan, SVD Birr, followed by a gathering in the community centre, where there was a display of family history and lovely refreshments. A donation was made to the local St Vincent de Paul Christmas fund. Many thanks to all who helped out.

CHILDREN’S DISCO

Soccer Club is holding their monthly children’s disco (up to 14yrs) on Friday November 29, 7pm to 9.30pm at Conor Davis Park. Entry €5 includes minerals and snacks. Fully supervised and parents welcome

LINE DANCING

Line dancing classes on Wednesday November 27 and December 4 from 8pm to 9pm in ICA hall. Classes break for Christmas on December 4 and resume in January. Contact Dolores 086 2664716.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

St Vincent de Paul annual collection at all masses is on Saturday and Sunday December 7 & 8.  Please give generously to help those in our parish in need in these difficult times.

The Camera Club’s 2014 calendar is on sale €5 from O’Horain’s, O’Gorman’s and MJ Dunne’s shop or from club members.  Featuring scenes from around Laois, this would be an ideal Christmas present.

PTAA DINNER DANCE

This year’s regional dinner dance is being held in The Manor Hotel Abbeyleix on Friday November 29. Tickets available from Sheila Kearney.

EU/Ireland @ 40 exhibition - displaying the history of Ireland’s forty years of EU membership continues in the gallery until the end of November. Internet and free WI-FI service for members. Knitting circle meets every Tuesday from 10.30am to noon. Bring along your knitting and enjoy a cuppa and chat.

5K SANTA DASH

The local jogging groups are hosting a 5k Santa Dash on Sunday December 8, meeting at 9.15am at Supervalu car park. Walkers, joggers and runners welcome. Adult: €5. Children free. Wear fancy dress or a Santa hat.

LATE MIRIAM DUNNE

There was much grief at the death of Miriam Dunne (née O’Connell) of Cullenbeg on Thursday November 14 at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Miriam was a popular member of the community and her passing is sadly regretted. Remains reposed at Moloney’s Funeral Parlour until removal on Saturday morning to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Miriam’s husband Tadgh, daughters Catherine, Paula, Theresa and Anita, family, relatives and friends.

COMHALTAS

The 25/21 celebration of Mountmellick Comhaltas in the Gandon Inn is on Saturday December 7 at 7pm. This free event celebrates traditional music in Mountmellick for the last 25 years and membership of CCÉ. Current and past members and committee are invited.
