Congrats Bernard

The people of Durrow and surrounding parishes are delighted to hear that local comedian and TV star Bernard O’Shea is to front a new two hour early morning show on 2FM from 7 am to 9 am. He will be joined on the radio by fellow Republic of Telly star Jennifer Maguire and FM’S Keith Walsh. The program will have a mixture of comedy, music and a good laugh. We wish Bernard and his team the very best of luck and we can ensure him that the radio will be on 2 FM from 7 am to 9am .

St Patrick’s Parade

Durrow Development Forum is delighted to confirm that the 2014 St Patrick’s Day parade will go ahead this year. The Parade will take place on Sunday, March 16 at 3pm. The parade is motorized the same as last year with the exception of HGV’s due to safety reasons. On the day there will be an open air country market on the green starting at 11.00 am, there will also be a family fun day with bouncy castles and kids hurling matches on the green. Further details will follow.

Lotto

The draw of January 20 was held Peadar’s Bar with a jackpot of €12,650. No jackpot winner, small draw winners were €30 Rachel Muldowney, €25 Tom Sullivan and €20 Jim Belfry c/o Castle Arms Hotel. The draw of Monday January 27 was held in Lennon’s Bar and there was no jackpot winner, small winners were €30 John Dohney, €25 Billy Whelan, €20 Pat Dunphy. The Lotto of February 10 will be held in O’Connell’s Cullohill with a possible jackpot of €13,100. All tickets to be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that night jackpot.

Flower & Gardens

The Annual General meeting of Cullohill/Durrow Flower and Garden Club will be held on Monday February 10, 2014 at 8 pm in Cullohill Community Centre. New members are always welcome. Eva Holmes willgtalk on the spring garden.

School Enrolment

Enrolment will take place for Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School from February 3 to February 28, 2014 .Enrolment forms can be picked up from the school office between 9am and 3pm.

Library News

Revised opening times at Durrow Library from Monday 27th January as follows: Monday - closed; Tuesday 1pm - 5.30pm; Wednesday 1.30pm - 5.30pm and 6pm-7.30pm; Friday 10.30am - 12.30pm; Saturday 11am - 1pm.

Macra Quiz

Durrow/Abbeyleix Macra are hosting a table quiz in Dec’s Bar, Durrow on Friday February 7 at 9 pm. A table of four costs 20 euro. A raffle will also take place on the night with loads of great prizes. All support is welcome.

Cullohill School

Scoil Tighearneach Naofa, Cullohill, is now taking names of pupils who wish to enroll in the school from September 2014. Telephone the office with all your details on 0578737281 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm during school term.

Kayaking

Durrow paddler Calvin O’Brien has qualified for the Junior Men’s Irish Freestyle Kayaking Team after a tough qualifying tournament in Tuam, Co. Galway recently. Seventeen year old Calvin who paddles with Laois Kayak & Canoe Club will represent Ireland at the European Championships in Slovakia later this year. David McClure from Kilkenny Aqua and Canoe Club also qualified in the Men’s senior section. Anyone who is interested in taking up the sport should contact www.laoiskayak.com

Whist Drive

The January whist drive of the Killermogh Parishes was held recently in the Parochial Hall, Cork Road, Durrow. Top score; tie , Elizabeth Cooper and Margaret Slevin. 1st Lady Josie McCartney, 2nd Lady Sadie Chester. 1st gent Michael O’Sullivan 2nd Gent Damien Carter. Halves - Tom Lalor & Louise Kavanagh. Juvenile - Andrew Bailey. Low Score - Bridie Kavanagh. Quarters - P .J. Cahill, Bridie Metcalf, Katie Bennett, Pat Delaney, Lorna Allen and Jimmy Ryan. Raffle - P. J. Cahill, Bridie Metcalf, Louise Kavanagh, Mai Conroy, Katie Bennett, Una Cahill. Next Whist Drive Thursday February 27 at 8.30 pm

Fishing

Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers held their first pike fishing competition of the season on the Lake in Ganstown for the Brendan Sheeran Memorial Cup. After a great days fishing the winner was Mick Walsh with Pat Dunphy runner up and Pat O’Regan in third place.
