The popular MacGiollapadraig way walk will be taking place on Easter Sunday, April 20. The 17km walk will run from Durrow in Laois to Gathabawn in Kilkenny.
The name MacGiollapadraig (Irish for Fitzpatrick) is strongly associated with this particular area as nearby Cullahill Castle, built in 1425, was the stronghold and residance of Brian MacGiollapdraig, the first Lord Baron of upper Ossary. The walks will start at the church car park in Durrow at 12pm and continue to Ballykealy at 1pm, to Cullahill Mountain for 2.30pm where intended walkers can join at the trail-head. After the walk lunch will be served in Mackeys Bar in Gathabawn. A pay for shuttle bus (€5) will also be available on the day to transport passengers from the finish to the start point.
The route will be marked from the start in the direction of Gathabawn. For more contact Vincent O”Sullivan at 087 4168549, Michael G Phelan at 087 2395357, P Fitzpatrick at 087 2481710 and Ed Lalor at 056 8832192.
