Well done to Eddie McAuliffe from Portarlington who was were among the Irish Transplant Team to take part in the 8th European Transplant & Dialysis Games in Poland. Newcomer to the team Eddie McAuliffe was delighted to secure a bronze medal in his age category 40-49 years. Eddie McAuliffe, who received a kidney from his donor sister Anne, was delighted with his medal.

Thanks You

The Portarlington Community Development Association would like to thank everyone who supported our flag days last Friday and Saturday. Thanks to Marcus McLoughlin for accommodating us. Money raised goes in to projects for the town which has been ongoing since 1997.

Folk Choir

If you are interested in getting involved with Portarlington Folk choir for the coming year please contact Anne Dunne at 087 4146600. The only requirements you need are the ability to hold a tune and an interest in taking part in the celebration of mass.


Following the success of their production of the play ‘Comparisons’ by local writer Henry Madden in the Dunamaise Arts Centre last May, the Portarlington Drama Society will show film excerpts from the performance for all to enjoy in the The Anvil Inn, Main St, Portarlington on Friday September 19 from 9pm-11pm.

Emo Court

Emo Court Exhibition and free guided tour of Emo Court on Friday September 19. Two free tours commence at 6pm and 7pm (extended opening hours). Traditional music, song and dance concert in Emo Court from  6.30pm-8.30pm by Portarlington Comhaltas Ceoltoirí  Eireann in the Drawing Room, Emo Court.

Active Retirement

Portarlington Active Retirement/Happy Hearts Club will reopen after the Summer break on Thursday September 4 at 2.30pm in the community centre. New members very welcome. Contact Anne at 057 8643099 or Cyril at 087 9395131 for details of membership.


Deepest sympathy to Frances O’Reilly Avondale on the recent death of her beloved mother Susan Guinan (nee Cleary) Tullamore who passed away in her 101st year at the regional hospital Tullamore on August 19.

Susan was predeceased by her husband Tom and will be sadly missed by her son Noel, daughters Una, Maura and Frances, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Requiem mass took place in St Colmans Church Mucklagh, with burial after in Clonminch Cemetery Tullamore. May Susan rest in peace.


Dancing continues every Monday night in The Gandon Inn, Emo till midnight in aid of Portarlington St Vincent de Paul. Music in the coming weeks:

Bridge Club

New season of bridge in Portarlington Golf Club, starting on Monday/Wednesday, September 15/17 at 7.45pm. New members welcome.


Kestrels Basketball Club AGM will be held on this Wednesday September 3 at 7.30pm in The Thatch Bar Function room in Killenard. All welcome. Registration days for the 2014/2015 season will be on Wednesday September 3 from 5pm-7pm in Killenard Community centre.

Boxing Club

Portarlington Boxing club re-opened on Wednesday August 27 from 7 to 9pm in Portarlington GAA Centre. New members welcome, from nine years and up. For more information contact 087 1153098.

Port RFC mini rugby

Season 2014/2015 kicks off with training resuming on Saturday September 6. We will also have registration on this day. More info to follow on this.

We are looking forward seeing all the boys and girls from last year, including any new faces that want to give rugby a try and a new group of leprechauns in the field on Saturday week for what promises to be another exciting season of developing our stars of the future.

Also any parent that wishes to help out in any way over the season please feel free to speak to any of last year’s coaches as we would be delighted to have some new faces on board. Our very own Serbian international and senior player Aleksandar Mihajlovic will be carrying out in-house coaching seminars in our newly decorated club house over the season.

St Conleth’s U8 U10 U12 U14 training on Saturdays in O’Dempsey’s at 10am. U14 on Wednesday in O’Dempsey’s at 6pm. U16 training on Tuesday at 7pm and Friday at 7pm. Our minor team are back out at the end of September so keep a check on our Facebook page for all updates regarding this.
