The Mountrath branch of the Laois Heart Foundation will hold their monthly meeting in the Cosy Café on Wednesday November 19 at 8p.m. All are welcome. New members welcome to join at anytime.


Annual Mass for deceased club members and friends on Friday Nov 28 at 7-30pm in the clubrooms. Followed by the AGM. Nomination forms should start arriving within the next few days.

History Society

The library is setting up a local history society. If you interested please sign up by calling Aoife on 057 8756378 or call into the library. The first meeting will take place on Thursday Nov 27th at 6pm. All are welcome We would like to remind the community that library membership is free to all children and OAPs, €3 for social welfare recipients and third level students and €15 for adults.The library stocks a large selection of fiction and nonfiction titles, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and language resources. Internet access, photocopying and printing facilties are also available. Free wifi is also available for library members.

Mountrath & District Camera Club will launch a Children’s Photography competition this Thursday November 13 in Mountrath Library, at 4.15pm.

Late Naomi LARKIN

Condolences to the family of the late Naomi Larkin, The Bungalow, Coolrain Village, Mountrath, formerly Leeds, UK who died peacefully at St James’s Hospital, Dublin on November 5. Beloved wife of Noel (Formerly of Ridge Road, Portlaoise) and dear mother of the late Daniel. Deeply regreted by her loving husband Noel, sister Janet, brother James, extended family, relatives, neighbours, and many friends. Reposed at home. Requiem Mass at St. Fergal’s Church, Camross. Burial after in St. Fergal’s Cemetery.

Late Austin Walsh

Condolences to the family of the late Austin Walsh of Abbeycresent, Abbeyleix, Mountrath and Wexford who died following a long illness on Sunday November 2. Much loved husband of Mary and loving dad to Margaret, Emma and Gus. Sadly missed by Susan & Howard, brothers Ned, Liam, Michael, Cyril and Raymond extended family and friends. Removal to the Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix. Requiem Mass with burial afterwards in Killameestia Cemetery via Mountrath.
