Junior Hockey AGM
Abbeyleix Junior Hockey Club had their AGM recently in Park Meeting Room. A successful 2013/2014 Hockey season was reviewed with a long list of activities, matches, Social Events and a healthy financial position reported. The following Officers and Committee were elected: Sarah Phelan – Chairperson, Margaret Carr – Secretary, Margaret Moynan/ Karen Hyland – Treasurer, Children’s Officers – Marie Thompson & Ann Cantwell & PRO Garry Luttrell. Committee in addition to above:, Michael Rafter, Frances Black, Sandra Lacey, Audrey Holohan, Helen Moore, & Caroline Clegg. A number of people who have been involved since the foundation of the club have retired from Committee and Club thanked them for their contribution over the years, in particular Tricia Nuzum, Michelle Harvey, Declan Stanley and Jackie O Connell. Late Austin Walsh
Condolences to the family of the late Austin Walsh of Abbeycresent, Abbeyleix, Mountrath and Wexford who died following a long illness patiently bourne on Sunday November 2. Much loved husband of Mary and loving dad to Margaret, Emma and Gus. Sadly missed by Susan and Howard, brothers Ned, Liam, Michael, Cyril and Raymond extended family and friends. Removal to the Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix. Requiem Mass with burial afterwards in Killameestia Cemetery via Mountrath.
Meeting held on Nov 14. President Pat O’Halloran opened the meeting with prayers and my land, 13 members attended. Federation craft day in Castletown on November 29. Federation meeting will in Knockaroo on November 30 at 2pm. Coach for Red Cow on November 28 leaves the Square at 5.30pm. Competition 1 Alice Reilly, 2 Helen Crookshank and 3 Pat o Halloran. Raffle 1 Bernie Hennessy and 2 Mary Carol. Meeting ended with a lovely super served by Helen Crookshank and Sadie Chester.
Multiple Sclerosis Ireland fundraising concert & dance takes place in the Manor Hotel on Thursday, November 13. Music by Abbeyfolk and Outa Diesel from 9pm til late. Tickets €10. Get your dancing shoes on to support MS Ireland. See Stage Left for more.
