Rev Brian O’Rourke has been appointed new rector for Portlaoise, The Rock & Ballyfin union of Church of Ireland Parishes. Rev Brian was rector in Cork City for the last 15 years. His institution took place in Portlaoise on January 9.
Sarsfields Ladies Football Club
The AGM of Sarsfields Ladies Football will be held in The Town Hall on Sunday January 25 at 3pm. The meeting will hear reports of an extraordinarily successful year during which the Club won it’s fourth Laois Senior title and third Leinster. In addition the Minors completed a ‘four-in-a-row’ Laois Championships and the Under 14’s picked up the Laois B title.
‘DA’ on STAGE
Mountmellick Drama Group will stage Hugh Leonard’s ‘Da’ on Thursday, Friday and Saturday January 22, 23 & 24 at 8pm each night in the Arts Centre. Admission €10, concessions €5. The story revolves round the living memories of Charlie, who returns to Ireland following his father’s death, only to find the his presence still very much alive. Directed by Tom Madden and with the acting talents of Shay Flannery, Doug Mortimer, Daniel Williams, Patricia Conroy, Tristan Kavanagh, John McEvoy, Ciara Lawlor and Jessie Conroy, it will be a great night’s entertainment.
Local traders made a financial presentation to the Tidy Towns committee on Wednesday night in Tom & Vron’s. This was in recognition of the continuous work done by the small dedicated committee and to assist them with their plans for 2015. Margaret Bradford of No 1 Boutique organised the event and thanked all the business people who organised and contributed.

THE ROCK GAA
The Laois GAA annual monster draw is the main source of income for the club for the year and we would very much appreciate your continued support of this important fundraiser. Tickets €130 from any committee member. Spread the payments over four months at €32.50 per month. 20 prizes in each draw with a top prize of €10,000 monthly.

SOCCER CLUB STRICTLY COME DANCING
MUFC Strictly come Dancing is on Valentine’s night February 14 in The Heritage Hotel Portlaoise. Primarily to raise money to develop a new plot of ground the club has bought, to benefit juvenile and senior members. The club is growing and expansion is required to keep pace. Proceeds will also help buy kits in club colours.
Tickets are on sale via the dancers and selling fast, so buy as soon as possible.
The dancers also need sponsors. Thanks to all the club supporters and to all who are supporting Strictly Come Dancing, the show of the year. Only four weeks to go!
