The Cuisle Cancer Support Centre church gate collection takes place at Borris in Ossory, Killasmeestia churches on Sat/Sun May 30&31. Support appreciated.

BEALTAINE FESTIVAL

Due to funerals taking place in the parish at the weekend, celebrations for the Bealtaine Festival had to be postponed. The Bealtaine Festival for the elderly will now be celebrated by Borris in Ossory Social Services in St Canice’s Hall on Saturday May 23, starting at 2pm and continuing until 5pm. There will be bingo, music, song and dance. Refreshments will be served.

SOCIAL SERVICES

Borris in Ossory Social Services Committee annual outing on Wednesday June 24 to Newgrange and Trim Castle, Co. Meath. Names and deposits of €10 must be given to Nan O’Brien in advance to guarantee a seat on the coach.

COMMITTEE MEETING

The next Social Services Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday night May 20 in St Canice’s Hall at 7.30pm. .

Doctors Retirement.

To honour the service given to the Borris in Ossory area, by the recently retired, Dr Seamus Fitzgerald and his wife Noreen, a night of celebration has been organised in Racket Hall Hotel, Roscrea, on Friday, May 29. The function will commence at 8.30 and refreshments will be provided.

RETREAT

Parish evening retreat at Peace in Christ Retreat House, Kilkenny will take place on Monday May 25. Bus leaves Borris in Ossory at 6.45pm. To travel call Pat Kelly at 087/8530829.

PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE

The annual Micheal Dooley Memorial Progressive 25 Card game in the O’Brien Hall on this Thursday May 21 9pm and it is hoped for a big turn out.

SHOWCASE EVENT

A Showcase/Information Day for the Over 55’s will take place on May 21 in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix. The Showcase starts at 10 a.m. and finishes at 4 p.m. There will be a number of speakers and stands with special guest speaker Mary O’Rourke. Refreshments will be provided and the day will end with some entertainment. Booking is Essential- Number limited.

MICHAEL CAMPION RIP

The death took place on Tuesday May 12 at St. Vincent’s Hospital Mountmellick of Michael (Mick) Campion, Knockaroo, Borris in Ossory. His remains reposed at his brother Jimmy’s residence, Knockaroo until removal on Thursday morning to St. Kieran’s Church, Knockaroo for Funeral Mass followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium, Dublin. The late Mick is deeply regretted by his loving daughter Ann, extended family and friends.

THE LATE JOE DOHENY

The death took place at his home on Wednesday May 13 of Joseph (Joe) Doneny, St. Canice’s Terrace, Borris in Ossory, Co. Laois. His remains reposed at his home. Removal on to St. Canice’s Church,for Funeral Mass followed by burial afterwards in Killasmeestia Cemetery. Predeceased by his wife Catherine (nee Dowling) only a year ago is deeply regretted by his loving sons, daughters, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
