Scoil Mhuire Parents’ Association are holding a 70s disco in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Friday May 22 from 9.30pm to late. DJ playing all the hits from the 70s with raffles and spot prizes.

‘HAPPY HEART APPEAL’
The Irish Heart Foundation ‘Happy Heart appeal’, which took place in Abbeyleix on May 8 raised €1,120.00. Sincere thanks to all for generously donating and to all the volunteers who manned the collection points in such inclement weather. Special thanks to the Management and staff at Abbeyleix Post Office, Clelands and Supervalu for their help and co-operation on the day. All help and support is greatly appreciated and all funds raised will help families fight heart disease and stroke through care, prevention and research.
Abbeyleix Tennis Club is starting a new tennis year and welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. There are social nights weekly for advanced adults, beginners and teenagers. Teenage tennis is on every Friday night from around 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Keep an eye out for our summer coaching programme for kids which will be starting in June. A comic making workshop for children from 6-12 years will take place in the Library on Friday July 24 at 2.30pm. Admission is free and booking is essential.

The knitting club meets on Wednesdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Members and non-members are welcome.
Abbeyleix Library offers many services including: adult, young adult and children lending, audio books, language learning resources and reference books, large print fiction, internet and wifi and photocopying. It also has a study section and leisure reading area.
Names are currently being taken for German language classes with a native German speaker which costs €50 for 8 weeks.

ME, MYSELF & 1
The exhibition ‘Me, myself and I’ is still on display at Abbeyleix Library and will run until May 31. It is part of the ‘artist in residence’ programme with the arts council of Laois and involves artist and art teacher Orla McDonagh and 12 students from Heywood Community School.
This year we are also holding a mid-summer market and mini festival in the grounds of Heritage House on Sunday, June 21. The Solas market and festival is aimed at people of all ages with bouncy castles for the kids, music, entertainment and market stalls. Former librarian Laura Brett will visit both Abbeyleix & Mountrath Library on Thursday May 28 as part of a book promotion tour for her new children’s picture book. Her book, Rainbow Rain, is beautifully illustrated in vibrant colours and will enchant young children, taking them on a magical rhyming journey of fun.
