It was a mixed weekend for Camross GAA club, on Saturday evening the senior hurlers just got the better of Clough-Ballacolla in the opening round of the senior hurling championship and as result of their victory they have been drawn to play Ballinakill in the quarter final and that game is scheduled to take place on Sunday August 16th in O’Moore Park Portlaoise.
On Sunday morning the intermediate team drew with the Harps. The junior B team lost out to Borris-Kilcotton in the re fixed first round and the junior C team lost out to Castletown. The junior footballers defeated Timahoe qualified for the semi-final against Killeshin on Thursday August 6th. The seniors are scheduled to play Clough-Ballacolla in the league final some time this week in O’Moore Park please check sports fixtures in local papers or check Laois GAA website.
The Camross parish social will take place in the Parish centre on next Saturday night August 1st with music supplied by Glen Flynn commencing at 9-30 and ending at 12-30pm, admission including supper is seven Euros.
The annual cemetery Mass in St Fergals cemetery Camross on next Friday week August 8th commencing at eight o’clock weather permitting if not Mass will be celebrated in the Parish Church.
Camross Golf Classic
Camross Annual Golf Classic takes place on Friday 14th August in Mountrath Golf Club. There is limited availability for tee times on Saturday 15th August. Teams of four cost €100.00. (€25.00 per person) Tee Boxes can be sponsored for €50, and Greens for €100 Prizes for golfers and non Golfers.

Camross branch of Fas are holding their annual fund raising race night in the Village Inn Camross on Saturday August 8th The usual format applies and in the coming weeks members of the Fas organisation who have the Village looking so well, they will be knocking on doors through out the Parish seeking your support.Please support this very worthy cause.

The community extend deepest sympathy to the Fitzpatrick family Trumera Cross Mountrath on the sudden and untimely death of Lorcan aged 22 who died suddenly on Tuesday July 2. Lorcan died at the Midlands regional Hospital Portlaoise and reposed at home on Wednesday where recital of the rosary took place.
On Thursday morning the remains were removed to St Fintan’s Church Mountrath for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by burial in St Fintan’s cemetery. Chief mourners are his parents Joe and Ita, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, neighbours and friends May he rest in peace.
