LAOIS MARTIAL ARTS

ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
The next meeting will be in the MDA on Wednesday April 18 at 10.30am when we will have a table quiz. We hope that you all enjoyed the outing to Newbridge and the ARI Trade and Fashion Show in the Citywest Hotel. Our Boccia teams had a most enjoyable evening recently playing their away matches in Clonbullogue ARA. The weekly activities continue on Mondays 3pm until 4.30pm. There will be dancing in Wolfe Tone Court and Boccia in the Macra Hall at 7.30pm. There is aqua aerobics on Tuesdays in Portlaoise Leisure Centre at noon. The free bus to this leaves the MDA at 11.15am. On art classes continue every Thursday in Wolfe Tone Court from 2pm until 4pm.

DERRYGUILE/KYLETELEISHA RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION
A clean-up of the Derryguile/Kyleteleisha area for Laois clean up week will take place on Thursday April 19 at 7.30pm. Bags, litter pickers and gloves will be available at the picnic site on the night given by Laois County Council. Thank you to the residents cutting the grass on the roadside outside their houses and to those who removed roadside weeds.

ROSENALLIS ATHLETICS CLUB
Rosenallis athletics training continues every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm in Johnsgrove Rosenallis.
Coaching for Gaelic football for girls and boys U8, U10, U12 and U14 continues at the Rock on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. All teams are up and running at this stage but new players are welcome and can register on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or alternatively contact the clubs juvenile secretary John Allen at 086 3264102 for more details.

On Wednesday April 18 an information meeting on drugs and diversion activities will take place in The Rock GAA clubhouse at 8pm. This LLDN (Laois Local Drugs Network) initiative is a joint project in association with Laois GAA, Laois Sports Partnership and Laois Partnership Company. It targets in particular parents, sports coaches and youth workers but all are welcome. Various speakers from the different groups will address the crowd on the night. Complimentary refreshments are available. Admission is free.
The Rock GAA Club 5 mile road race will take place on Sunday April 29. Start time is 11am. Registration is from 10am at the Rock GAA clubhouse. U6 and U8 hurling training continues in Acragar every Monday at 6.30pm. U10 and U12 follows at 7pm, new players welcome. U6 and U8 football training is at 6pm on Thursdays.U14 football training continues at 5pm on Saturdays in Acragar. There is a table quiz this Friday night in the Hollow Bar at 9.30pm in aid of the club. All support greatly appreciated.
OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE CLUBHOUSE
Mr Liam O’Neill, president of the GAA, will officially open the new club house on Friday May 11 at 7pm, which will be followed by an inter-county senior football game between Laois and Offaly at 7.30pm.
A family fun day will be held on Saturday May 12 in Acragar with competitions for all juveniles in both hurling and football. The GAA roads how will also be present. It promises to be a great fun day for all.
There will be a table quiz in the Hollow Bar this Friday night, April 20 at 9.30pm. Quizmaster on the night will be Michael Lenihan. All support would be very much appreciated.
Training for all U10 and U12 continues on Mondays at 6pm in Acragar. New members are very welcome. Further up the age groups club training continues from 16 upwards on Tuesday and Fridays.

Currently on show in the library gallery is an exhibition by artist Aidan Butler. His art works titled ‘Excursion’ is broadly based on places in the midlands. All are welcome.

On Friday May 4, between 9am and 10am, Mountmellick Library will host an ‘Eat a Book Contest’. Blend your love of food and books by creating an edible masterpiece. Entry is free and one person can enter more than once. The judges this year are the manager of Supervalu, Eunice Burns from The Rose Room Bistro, Nora O’ Reilly from Nora’s Cake Shop and Maggie from Maggie’s Sandwich Bar. Prizes will include lunch vouchers for all of the above cafes and sumptuous edible goodies from Supervalu.
