HERITAGE WEEK - THE GATHERING IRELAND 2013
The Owenass Active Living Group is taking part in The Gathering Ireland 2013. We are organising a number of events and hope to attract a number of people to Mountmellick during Heritage Week (August 17 - 25). These events will be promoted by us, the Heritage Council, Laois County Council, The Gathering Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. The Gathering Ireland website suggests very few accommodation options in Mountmellick. We would like to make this as much of a community event as possible. If you have a B&B etc. in Mountmellick and would like us to include it in our promotion or would like assistance setting up a Facebook page so that we can link it to our website please contact Mary on 086 7914933 or firstname.lastname@example.org

There was a great buzz around the Arts Centre on a recent Saturday when the county finals for the Community Games Talent competition were held. Mountmellick was well represented with dancers, musicians and singers. Emma Hunt and Éille Lalor took part in the solo singing and performed so well in what was a huge competition. We had wonderful dancing from Emer Comerford in the modern dance and Hannah Dunne and Orlaith Whelan danced traditional to a Michael Jackson song and looked the part too. Mountmellick also took honours with Aoife Oxley and Éille Lalor dancing to ‘I’ll tell me ma’ taking silver. Noel Stapleton played in the solo instrument and our group ‘An Reel’ played in the group section and both took gold and will go to the National Finals. Best of luck to them. Also well done to our swimmers who took part in the county final in Portlaoise recently.
What a wonderful sight on a recent Friday where Mountmellick Comhaltas put on the annual concert. Children of all ages and some adults went on stage to perform and entertain a good crowd. There was wonderful music, singing and dancing and all taking part did the branch proud. At the end there was a packed stage where the children finished out the night all playing a couple of tunes together. Well done too to those who won great prizes in our raffle.
Thank you to all who took part and all who helped to make it such a great night.
