A number of events are set to take place in Portlaoise this week as part of the Irish Times/Pfizer Healthy Town programme, running until Sunday, October 5.
The programme focuses on the importance of looking after your heart, and there is a full schedule of free events and talks to inspire people to take on the Healthy Town challenge and make Portlaoise a healthier place.
On Thursday October 2, the second of the Portlaoise Green Gym sessions will take place at the Portlaoise Leisure Centre outdoor gym at 11am.
These sessions will run every Thursday for the duration of the Healthy Town programme and will give the people of Portlaoise a chance to learn how to best use the equipment and encourage people of all ages to take on healthy heart habits.

On Saturday October 4, The Irish Heart Foundation will provide more free public health checks in the parish centre. This comprehensive free service is open to all members of the public. Also on Saturday, a fitness workshop for teenage girls will take place in the Treo Nua Family Resource Centre from 2.30pm to 5pm.
The workshop aims to highlight the benefits of different types of training and will give tips on the best workouts to reach specific goals. To book a place, please text ‘Teen Workshop’ and you full name to 087 1445428. The course is limited to 20 places.
