The Stradbally dancers who won the recent Laois Community Games U-12 Irish Contemporary Dance competition. The girls are (back) Sinead Larkin, Sarah Larkin and Grace Scully, and (front) Grainne McCaul, Orla Sheridan and Bronagh Scully. Under the direction of Grainne and Br�d Ann Buggie, they will now go on to represent Laois in the National Finals in Athlone on May 26, well done!

THE LATE SHEILA DEEGAN

The death occurred on April 15 (peacefully) at her home, in the care of her loving family, after a bravely fought illness of Sheila Deegan, (nee O’Brien), Church Lane, Stradbally. Beloved wife of Bill, and mother of Linda, Pat, William and Fiona; sadly missed by her loving family, daughters-in-law Anne and Carol, sons-in-law Tim and Martin, her 11 grand- children, great-grand-daughter Ali, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, neighbours and extended family. Her remains were reposing at her home on Tuesday, with removal on Wednesday to the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally and interment took place afterwards in St Colman’s

Cemetery, Stradbally.

THE LATE DANIEL DUNNE

The death occurred on Saturday, April 13 of Daniel Dunne, of Crannagh House, Stradbally, Laois peacefully in the loving care of the staff and management of Ballard Lodge Nursing Home, Portlaoise. Predeceased by his loving wife Joan and deeply regretted by his sons Stephen and Jim, daughters Kay, Emily, Julie and Mary, sisters Chrissie and Peg, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His remains were reposing at his residence on Monday until removal to Saint Joseph’s Church, Ballyadams, and following requiem mass on Tuesday morning at 11am interment took place afterwards in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Ballyadams.

THE LATE PATRICK (PADDY) DUNNE

The death occurred on Thursday, April 18 of Patrick (Paddy) Dunne, of Grange Lower, Stradbally, Laois peacefully, at Portlaoise Regional Hospital. Paddy is sadly missed by his loving wife Delia, son William, daughters Margaret, Mary, Ann and Judith, grandchildren, sister Sheila Delaney (Athy), sons-in-law Pat, John and Alfie, daughter-in-law Pauline, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. His remains were reposing at his daughter Margaret Booth’s residence, Rathfield House, Kilone, Stradbally on Friday until removal on Saturday to the Sacred Heart Church Stradbally and following requiem mass on Sunday morning interment took place afterwards to Oakvale Cemetery.

TIMAHOE LADIES FOOTBALL NEWS

STRADBALLY YOUTH CENTRE

Normal opening times Thursdays 7pm-9pm and Fridays 7pm-9pm. They have decided to close on Saturdays until further notice due to lack of leaders and volunteers. If anyone would like to become a leader, training will be provided (two evenings). Drop into the centre and give your name.

LAOIS FLEADH CEOIL 2013

Plans are going very well for this years Fleadh in Ratheniska/Stradbally. The opening of the Fleadh and the dancing competitions will take place in Ratheniska on Friday, May 31 from 7pm. The group/band competitions will take place in St Coleman’s School on Saturday, June 1. Individual competitions will be on Sunday, June 2 in St Coleman’s National School. TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS

TRAIN RIDES

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s Narrow Gauge Railway will have full steam up and running on the May bank holiday weekend, Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 5 May from 1pm until 4pm daily.

NATIONAL PLOUGHING

The 2013 National Ploughing will take place on the farm of David Carter, Ratheniska from September 24 to September 26. Showcasing Irish food, farming and culture, this event will incorporate all sectors of agricultural living.

FORESTRY FESTIVAL FOR STRADBALLY

The Irish Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show 2013 will take place at Stradbally Hall Estate on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11. The show is a bi-annual event that will feature forest and woodland machinery with all the ancillary activities that go with tree growing and harvesting. The show will host the National Tree Climbing Championships and will feature the top tree surgeons competing for a place to represent their country at European and World events.

First Holy Communion will be held in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Saturday, May 18, 2013 and in St Michael’s Church, Timahoe on Saturday, May 25, 2013.
