Members of the community are invited along to a short event at the Manor Hotel between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, March 29, to discuss ideas for future use of Abbeyleix Bog as a centre for amenity, research, education and training. We value everyone’s views and opinions and want to capture these in a development plan for the bog. We look forward to seeing you.
Applications for enrolment in Naomh Brid ASD Unit are now being taken for the 2012/2013 school year. Applications and accompanying documentation should be lodged with the school by Friday March 30. ST PATRICKS BOXING
The club held their draw on Sunday March 18. first prize of €300, denis cullen, 2 prize of €100, richard mcdonald and 3 prize of €50, Jimmy bergin. The club would like to thank everyone who sold lines and cards, everyone who bought lines in support of the club and the management and staff of the Horseshoe Inn for allowing the draw to take place there. St Patricks boxing club would like to take this oppurtunity to congratulate Shemus Fitzpatrick for his brilliant achievement last weekend. Shemus took part in the all ireland boxing tournament in the royston club, newbridge where in the quarter finals he beat the highly fancied stephen tackleberry 9 – 8, stephen hails from the kilcullen club. Unfortunatly, Shemus was beaten in the semi finals, 5 – 2 by John Nickelson. Shemus can be proud as this is an exceptional achievement for his first time in this venue and the club sees a bright future for him.

This quiz takes place in the Manor Hotel on Thursday March 29 at 9.30pm sharp. Table of 4 is €20 and the quiz is in aid of the Fr Eddie Lalor missionary fund. All are welcome to attend. There is also raffle prizes available on the night.
ABBEYLEIX COMMUNITY ALERT
An AGM was held on Tuesday March 13 in the social services centre in Abbeyleix. The Meeting was opened by the Chairperson Michael Lynch who welcomed everyone. The Secretary Brenda Dunican read the minutes from the 2011 AGM which were deemed a correct record and signed accordingly. Gerry Anderson gave a report on Finances to date and informed the meeting that Community Alert were awaiting grants. There is a number of alarms and security systems that need to be fitted in the near future. These will be dealt with as soon as the grant funds are to hand.
Michael Lynch informed the meeting that he was stepping down as Chairperson, The new Committee was then voted in as follows. Chairperson – Gerry Anderson, Vice Chairperson - Arthur Holohan, Treasurer – Paddy Phelan, Vice Treasurer – Bernie Carroll, Secretary – Brenda Dunican, Assistant Secretary - Yvonne Porter, PRO- Yvonne Porter. Gerry Anderson thanked Michael Lynch for all his hard work over the years. Michael plans to stay involved in the Community Alert. The Meeting was then closed. Next meeting is Tuesday April 10 at 8pm in the Social Services Centre, Mountrath Road, Abbeyleix. New Members always welcome.
RAHEEN COMMUNITY ALERT
