EASY ON THE EAR

Free lunchtime concert on Thursday, August 2, 1.10pm - 1.50pm at St Peter’s Church (COI), Market Square, Portlaoise, featuring Charles Marshal on the organ. Charles, a native of Laois, studied organ at St Finian’s, Mullingar, then became an organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, from where he graduated in 1994. Bring your lunch and eat while you listen. No charge, donations welcome (half of donations go to Laois Hospice).

DIVINE MERCY MASS

in St Peter and Paul’s parish church on Wednesday August 1 at 7.30pm. Celebrant Fr John Keane. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Blessing with St Faustina relics. All are very welcome.

PARISH CONCERT

Classical concert takes place in St Peter’s Church of Ireland at 8pm on August 5. The concert features music from the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne who will perform works from Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart. Tickets available from the Dunamaise box office.

RADIO MASS

RTE Radio will broadcast the 10am mass from St Peter & Paul’s Church. Sunday, August 5 and Sunday 12.

TABLE QUIZ

Laois Down Syndrome hosts a table quiz in The Rock Inn on Saturday, August 11 at 8.30pm. Table of 4 €40 including light refreshments.

BALLYFIN REUNION

CUISLE CYCLE

A cycle challenge in aid of the Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise takes place on Sunday, August 19. The event comprises a 100km cycle over the Slieve Blooms, a 40km leisure lap and family and high nelly spins around Portlaoise. More details on Facebook or contact the centre. LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

The 40th annual Portlaoise parish pilgrimage to Lourdes began last Tuesday making it one of the longest established and most successful parish pilgrimages to the well known grotto.

There was no jackpot winner in the Portlaoise Parish Lotto when the numbers were drawn on Thursday, July 26. The numbers drawn were 3,8,10,15. The 23 Match 3s receive €44 each. This week’s jackpot is €20,000.

Michael Moylan returns with his hugely popular interactive history show for kids. This year, experience a unique historical re-enactment of life on board the Titanic. Tommy Millar And The Two Pennies: A Family Story Of The Titanic takes place in Portlaoise Library on Wednesday August 22 at 6pm. Author and journalist Susie Millar tells how her great-grandfather came to be an engineer on the Titanic and what happened to him and his family in April 1912. Portlaoise Library has compiled an exhibition of old photographs of Main Street, Portlaoise. The launch of ‘Main Street Down The Years’ takes place on Thursday August 23 at 6pm.
