The Music Box is a music programme aimed at children and young people with special needs. Music Generation Laois are now enrolling for a week-long summer camp in Portlaoise from the 9 – 13 of July. A range of daily Classes of 40 minutes duration will run throughout the week, and children and young people will be assigned to a class in accordance with their age, ability and experience. The well known floral artist and garden designer Enda Thompson-Phelan has very generously agreed to open her spectacular gardens at Clonohill House, Coolrain to the public on Sunday July 15 in aid of Laois Hospice Foundation. An ideal summer outing is promised either for the keen gardener, the armchair gardener or just to enjoy a day out in these spectacular gardens. Open from 1pm to 7pm, those attending can enjoy Enda’s informative guided tour followed by afternoon tea. Admission is €10 which includes afternoon tea. A day not to be missed.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the golf classic in aid of the Laois branch of the Irish Kidney Association on July 6 at the Heath Golf Club has been postponed. Laois Heritage Society’s annual outing this year goes to Cobh. It takes place on Saturday July 14 and includes a guided tour of the Titanic experience in this the centenary year of the sinking of the unsinkable ship. There will also be a visit to the Cobh Heritage Centre, the Cathedral and Fota gardens. Early booking is advised. The next exhibition in The Space opens this Thursday in unit 6/7 at Laois Shopping Centre. Life:Map will bring you on an interactive journey through different stages of life and will feature original poetry by writer David Delaney, housed in installations specifically created for the event by artist Jayne Louise Kelly. The exhibition invites the public to look at life through different perspectives from early childhood onward. This pop-up exhibition lasts for four days. The official launch of ‘An Evening with Mick and Friends’ took place at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel on Thursday, June 28 at 1pm. The fundraiser promises a big night of sport, music and friendship on Friday July 27 in Portlaoise Heritage Hotel from 8.30pm. The evening will include a presentation of golf classic prizes, an auction of sports memorabilia to include items such as autographed rugby and GAA shirts, golf 4 balls and other items of interest to all sports enthusiasts and beyond.
