Portarlington Tidy Towns are holding a Table Quiz in the Hawthorn Lounge on Friday February 15 to raise funds so they can enhance the town over the summer months with Hanging Baskets and containers full of flowers. They need your support so put the 15th in your diary and give them your support.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Shirley Hoey (nee Connolly) 6, Botley Court, and formerly of Marion Hill who passed away on January 17 after a long illness at the Regional Hospital Tullamore, with her loving family by her bedside. Shirley will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Michael who looked after her for a number of years. Also her loving family Regina, Michael, Kenneth, Lynda, Gillian, ShirleyAnne,Calvin & Melaine, her beloved grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. PORT GAA AGM
Portarlington GAA held its AGM on Friday January 11. In front of a large attendance, Michael Lawlor, outgoing secretary of the club for the past number of years resigned his post. Actively involved in the club for over 50 years Michael received a standing ovation for the time, dedication and work he gave to our club. Rose McCann, another great person with years of service and a dedicated committee member also called time. We would like to wish Rose and Michael a happy retirement but will no doubt see plenty of them around McCann Park for many years to come.
Seamus Hunt retains the Chairman. Janet Bennett takes up the role of Club Secretary and is assisted by Adrainne McCarthy. Canice McCarty moves into the treasurer position being ably supported by the outgoing treasurer John Lawlor. Joseph Sweeney takes on the position of Vice Chairman, with John Corcoran as new Club PRO. The club would like to sincerely thank its members, supporters, team sponsors, the people of the town and ticket sellers for the continuing financial support. We look forward to a successful year on and off the playing fields.

A great night was had by all at our Annual Dinner Dance. Congratulations to Clubman of the Year Syl Mullins, a very worthy recipient. Annual Gala Ball
The annual gala ball will take place on Friday Febuary 22 in the Heritage Golf and Spa resort Killenard. This year’s charity will be Laois/Offaly Autism Association. Tickets are €50 and can be purchased from Maria Molloy, Marie Corcoran and Collette Kennedy. As usual hoping for a full house on the night.

Courtwood GAA News
Anyone who wishes to take part in senior Scor competition or to help out in organisation of same is asked to contact any of the Courtwood GAA club committee. Fundraising table quiz in aid of Courtwood GAA club will take place on Friday 1st February at 9 p.m. in The Final Furlong, Ballybrittas. Table of four, €40. All very welcome.
The annual Courtwood GAA club weekend away takes place this year on the second weekend of May. This year’s destination is Westport, Co Mayo and accommodation will be in the 4* Castle Court Hotel. Tour coach will leave Ballybrittas at 10.30 am sharp on Friday May 10. The package includes two nights B&B, a four course evening meal from the a la carte menu in the hotel’s renowned Orchard Restaurant plus three days coach hire. Also included in the trip will be a “mystery tour”. The total cost of this package is €189.The club would like to strongly urge those intending travelling for the weekend to use the above arrangements. Anyone who sources alternative transport or accommodation will unfortunately not be able to avail of the Saturday tour, the free nightclub entry or the evening meal at the advertised price.
The trip is limited to 40 persons and names are now being taken. A non refundable deposit of €50 per person is payable by 28th February with a second instalment of €50 payable by 28th April. County Board Tickets
Tickets are currently on sale for the Laois GAA All County Clubs Members Draw. The Annual Fund Raising initiatives run by the Laois County Board. It is one of our Clubs primary revenue sources. Despite these difficult economic times, these tickets remain our single most important fund-raiser for the club and members are urged to support this in every way possible, be it buying a full ticket, or perhaps sharing a ticket with some friends or family members. There are 4 draws with over €100,000 in prizes including a first prize of €10,000 each month. Tickets are €130 and can be paid off monthly in instalments by direct debit.
