The newly formed Portlaoise & District Ploughing club will be holding its first Christmas table quiz on Thursday, December 13 at 8.30pm sharp in the Rock Inn, Dublin Road, Portlaoise. Hard luck

Har luck to the Portlaoise Senior Footballers who lost out to Ballymun Kickams in the Leiinster Senior Club Football final. It has still been a good year for the lads who fought bravely in the final and almost staged a dramatic comeback.

GOSPEL CHOIR

The Portlaoise Gospel Choir will sing at 12.30 pm mass in St Peter and Pauls ChurcH on Sunday, December 16 and will also sing at a concert in St Peters Church of Ireland at 6.30 pm the same evening. On Sunday, December 23 they will sing in Shaen Hospital from 1.30-2.30 pm and in in the Kyle shopping centre from 3-6pm. At 8pm the choir will participate in a carol service along with other choirs at St Peter and Pauls parish Church Portlaoise.

Kilminchy Toy Appeal

Santa Claus is coming to O’Gorman’s Pub in Kilminchy tonight, Tuesday December 11, but not to deliver toys, to collect them for the annual Christmas Toy appeal, organised by Kilminchy residents with Portlaoise Family Resource Centre. Toys must be new and unwrapped, and Santa will deliver them to less fortunate children in the town. Children giving a toy will receive a free photo with Santa, and light entertainment will be provided on the night. Gifts can also be left with a member of bar staff. before the toy appeal, which takes place from 5pm to 8pm. All are welcome.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

Mothercare Portlaoise will continue to accept donations up until December 20 for St Vincent de Paul Toy Appeal.

Portlaoise Singers

The Portlaoise Singers will be performing in the Heritage Hotel on Monday, December 17. This year the group will be performing songs from South Pacific. The choir which is now in its 39th year, features singers from all over Laois. The show starts at 8pm and all are welcome.

Scrap for The HEATH NS

The Parents Council for the Heath National School is holding a Scrap Metal Drive on Saturday, December 15. A trailer will be provided beside the school between 10 am and 3pm ONLY, for items. Items accepted - farm machinery, cars, washing machines, dryers, bikes, car and truck parts, old wheel barrows, clean food tins, all metal waste ect. Items not accepted Plastic items, fridges ( because of the gas ) Gas bottles, T.V’s or computer monitors. Items can be collected by prior arrangement. Contact Peter on 087 6878063. Condolences to the family of the late Seamus Maher of Beech Ave, Rathleague, Portlaoise who passed away peacefully on December 5 at his son’s residence, Seamus (Jimmy). Beloved husband of the late Teresa and son James, Seamus is deeply missed by his brothers and sisters extended, relatives and friends.
