Judging in the Tidy Towns Competition is ongoing. We are asking everyone to take the time to make sure Portarlington looks its very best for them and indeed for everyone who lives, works or visits here.
Maryellen Brennan and Pauline Stapleton from Killnacourt did a parachute jump for MS Ireland and the Port Dirty Old Towns. Maryellen who comes from New York but has lived in Port for a number of years suffers from MS, but has always wanted to do a parachute jump, and with clearance from her doctor her wish has come through. She raised €730 for MS Ireland and also €730 for DOT projects. Maryellen is an Italian/American lady and because she was not able to help physically, to help out with the DOT, herself and her husband Jim decided they would like to do something else. Jim was originally to do the jump, but he developed a heart problem, and was not allowed. So the lovely Pauline, their next door neighbour said she would do it with Maryellen. We had a wonderful day in Clonbullogue on the day. Thanks again ladies, and we are still working on work that needs doing, and the maintenance of the work that has been done.
