Condolences to the family of the late Maureen Jenkin Evans née Quigley, Great Ayton, Yorkshire formerly Rathdowney who died on January 6 peacefully in the presence of her niece Kate and care of the staff at Mount Vale Care Home, Yorkshire. Predeceased by her husband Jack. Sadly missed by extened family, neighbours, relatives and friends. Funeral servic in Yorkshire followed by cremation. A memorial mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Holy Trinity Rathdowney followed by burial of the ashes in Rathdowney local cemetery. This memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
ST FERGAL’S DRAW
The parents council of St. Fergal’s College, Rathdowney, would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the terrific support for our recent Christmas draw. The draw was a great success and raised much needed funds for extracurricular activities coming up in the school. The winner of the first prize of €250 worth of vouchers was Niamh Mulhall, whilst we also gave away another 25 prizes on the day. The lucky winner of €50 for selling a full card was Ciara Corcoran. We would also like to acknowledge the help of principal Aine O’Neill, Sarah and all the teachers for ensuring the draw ran so smoothly. Lastly, we could not have had held this draw without the wonderful support of all our sponsors. We would like to say a huge thank you to all who contributed to this draw and we wish you well in your respective businesses in the year ahead.
There was no winner in this week’s jackpot which was €15,100. The numbers drawn were 5, 16, 17, 18. A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.
Any adults or non-exam year secondary school students who wish to take part in or help in any way with this year’s pantomime should come and put your name and mobile number down. No primary school pupils yet please. Looking forward to seeing new and auld faces in this year’s show! Dates of show will be announced later, but it will definitely be in March.
Grants for Projects to commemorate the centenary of 1916 s are now available for community groups and organisations planning to organise events or projects in Laois relating to the Centenary of the 1916 Rising.
Projects funded in Laois must reflect the values of the National Ireland 2016 programme and be in keeping with the Laois programme available to download at www.laois.ie. The Ireland 2016 Laois Community Grants are being administered by Laois County Council. The list of projects which received funding under this scheme in 2015 is available here.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Monday February 1.
