WEDDING BELLS

The Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally was the setting on Saturday, February 27, 2016 for the marriage between Brendan Delaney, son of Brendan and Annette, 22 Woodview, Stradbally and Michelle Conlon, Kylebeg Manor, Stradbally.

JOHN (JUICY) DOOGUE

The death occurred peacefully at Droimnin Nursing Home, Stradbally on Thursday, March 3 of John Doogue (affectionately known as Juicy), Garrons, Stradbally. Deeply regretted by his brothers, Thoss, Patsy and Joe, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. His remains were reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally on Friday, 4 until removal for requiem mass on Saturday at 12 noon at the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally, interment afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery.

ANGLERS

The annual general meeting of the Stradbally & District Anglers Association (senior members) will be held on tonight, March 8 commencing at 8pm. The meeting will be held at Stradbally Lake Office.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Wednesday, March 9 Tour to Dublin Castle afternoon, 1916 Centenary tour in Dublin. Bus leaves from St Mary's Hall at 9 o'clock. Golf lessons starting April 7 for 5 weeks. Next meeting Wednesday, March 16 at 10.30am.

ST MARY'S SCHOOL

St Mary's School Hall, Stradbally is currently going under new refurbishments in preparation for the new ECCE FREE Pre-School 'Early Learning Montessori'. Open days will be announced for two days over the Easter holidays. Please contact Sheila 087 7847898 for any further information.

GARDEN CLUB

Stradbally Flower and Garden Club will hold their Easter demonstration on Wednesday, March 16 at 8pm in St Joseph's School.

SILVER CIRCLE

Winners of the first two draws held on Saturday night week last, February 27 were: First draw €200 Mary Moran, Kylebeg Manor and other winners included Dean Maher, Ellen O'Keeffe, Tommy Kelly, John Moore and Lesley Anne Kearns. Second draw €200 Tracey Maher, The Glebe and other winners included Maeve Delaney, Paddy Bergin, Aoife Horgan, Rita Whelan and Michael & Yvonne Mahon.

VOLUNTEERS

CHILDRENS LEGO CLUB

Stradbally Library are hoping to set up a Children's Lego Club in the Library on Saturday morning from 10.30am-12.30pm. We are looking for any donations of Lego/Duplo sets, contact Julie, librarian on 057 8641673 or 085 1487916.

WORKSHOPS

COUNTRY MARKETS

Takes place every Saturday morning between 10am and 1pm in St Patrick's Hall, Stradbally.

1916-2016

St Patrick's Day Parades 2016. Next meeting to finalise details will be in St Joseph's Hall on Monday, March 14 commencing at 8pm. All welcome.

TABLE QUIZ

The Swan Development Committee, in conjunction with local sporting clubs, are organising a table quiz as a fundraiser to support local amenities.

The date will be announced shortly. Refreshments will be served on the night.

CREDIT UNION HELP

People First Credit Union Community Support Group 2016 is now open, to which local community, cultural,charity and sports groups may apply for funding to assist with worthwhile projects. Groups applying for sponsorship must complete the official entry form at www.portlaoisecu.ie stating why they should qualify for sponsorship. Applicants must be from within People First Credit Union's common bond, and requests must be for projects that benefit the local area.

TOURISM GRANTS

Laois County Council wish to advise that applications for funding are now being sought under the Community Tourism Initiative for the Diaspora. The initiative, launched in 2014, builds on the community involvement legacy of The Gathering 2013 and is a joint partnership between Laois County Council, IPB Insurance and Fáilte Ireland.

Administered locally by Laois Council, the application process for 2016 is now open and will close on Friday 11th March, 2016. CHURCH GATE FOR AUTISM

A church gate collection for autism will be taken up on the weekend of March 19 and 20 at all masses. Your support is greatly appreciated.
