Ladies night

The parents association of Maryborough NS is holding a fundraising ladies night on Friday, May 20 from 8pm in O'Loughlins Hotel, Main St. The night features a colour me beautiful presentation, stalls eg nails , jewellery, fashion etc Tickets €10 from Fiona 0857247908.

Knock Pilgrimage

Dioscesan pilgrimage to Knock on Sunday, June 5. Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin Denis Nulty will be main celebrant on that day. Spiritual director Fr Paddy Byrne will be travelling on bus leaving Parish centre 9am. Tickets must be purchased at Parish Centre contact Maura O'Brien 0863344722

School Fair

The Summerhill Family fun and fair Day’s second annual event takes place on Sunday, May 29 at the Summerhill School’s Campus in Portlaoise 1-5pm.

Crafters, food vendors and stallholders are now invited to apply for their stalls at this event. Please note that stalls are on a first come first served basis.

Secondary School

The Laois Offal Education & Training Board is to apply to become the Patron of the new co-ed secondary school in Portlaoise. Further information will be available at a public meeting on Thursday, May 19 at 8pm in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise.

The Heath NS

The Heath NS parents council church gate collection in the Church of the Assumption on Sat, May 29. Support appreciated.


This talented group, directed by Maureen Culleton, will gladden the heart when they perform songs to welcome Summer in Portlaoise Parish Centre on Wednesday May 18 at 11am as part of the Bealtaine Festival. All are welcome to attend and join in what promises to be a very enjoyable occasion.


The Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise, is the venue for a Tea Dance on Wed, May 18 from 2pm to 4pm. Music by Danny Webster & Maureen Culleton will be MC. Free admission and all are welcome to join in a fun filled afternoon of music and dance with a cuppa and chat.

Heritage Society

For The Laois Heritage Society’s May presentation, Tom Nelligan, Historian of the Standing Stone.ie, discusses ‘The Use of 3D Reconstruction for Heritage and Archaeological Sites with a focus on Laois’.

It is a major addition in preserving the memory of our past and mitigate the risk of possible damage or loss of precious cultural assets. Takes place in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise on Thursday May 19th at 8pm. All are welcome.

Credit Union

The People First Credit Union, which incorporates Portlaoise and Abbeyleix branches, will be offically launched on Thursday, May 19. The day features a resentation of Community Fund Sponsorship to local clubs and Wheel of Fortune for Community Funding Applicants. There will be a monthly Cash Draw giving away a new amount of €8,000. Ciaran Byrne (Director from the Irish League of Credit Unions ) will officially cut the ribbon with Sean Dunne, chief executive and Clive Davis, Chairman. Events get underway at noon in Portlaoise.

Boughlone, Portlaoise, who died on May 6 peacefully at Portlaoise hospital. Beloved wife of the late Bill & mother to the late Margaret. Deeply regretted by son Kieran, daughter Noreen, sister Hanna,extended family and relatives. Reposed at Keegan's Funeral Home. Removal to SS Peter & Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass. Burial in SS Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
