Walkers of all ages and anybody who wants tackle the symptoms of arthritis are invited to get involved with a Nordic Walking Group in Portlaoise.
Over the next two weekends, (Saturdays, September 3 & 10), Laois Sports Partnership and the Laois Branch of Arthritis Ireland will deliver two FitSticks Workshops at the Macra Hall in Portlaoise.
The workshops, which run from 11am-1pm, are designed as a fun introduction to the use of Nordic Walking Poles for people with arthritis - with a focus on improving functional fitness.
Nordic walking is a total body version of walking that can be enjoyed both by non-athletes as a health-promoting physical activity. The activity is performed with specially designed walking poles similar to ski poles.
Nordic walking has been estimated as producing up to a 46% increase in energy consumption, compared to walking without poles.
All ages and abilities catered for - poles will be supplied for the duration of the workshops.
