Cycling enthusiasts at Abbeyleix Garda Station have raised around E4,000 for two local charities at their recent charity cycle.

On September 10, up to 30 cyclists took off on the 75kilometre cycle from Abbeyleix. The route took them to Mountrath, Borris-in-Ossory, Rathdwoney and Ballacolla.

They were joined in Durrow by the local high nellie club who escorted the gang back to Abbeyleix. Alan O’Hanlon had lead the way as the cyclists left Abbeyleix.

All the funds raised are being donated equally between Abbeyleix Autism Unit and Dove House, Abbeyleix, where the cyclists returned for refreshments after thier long morning on the high roads and by roads of South Laois.

“Everyone set out to raise €100 each and everyone has brought back at least that amount. We’re delighted to have raised so much and we hope that it will help the local charities too. It was a great day, which everyone enjoyed.” Mary Tobin said.
