Congrats to Irish Defence Force recruits from Portarlington, Ian Dyer and Stephen Cooper, who were among those soldiers in the passing out parade at the Curragh Camp on April 12.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Madge Knight, Assumpta Tce and her family on the death of Madge’s brother Marty Flanagan from Tulsk Co. Roscommon. Marty was a frequent visitor to Portarlington and he will be sadly missed by all his family whom he was so close to. Marty loved to visit them and also to have them visit him in his native Roscommon. Burial took place after requiem mass in the Church of St Eithne and Fidelma Tulsk on Monday April 2. Rest in peace Marty.


Sympathy is extended to Rhoda Patterson Portlaoise Road and her family on the death of their mother Ethel Bryan (nee Cobbe) from Old Grange Monasterevin. Service took place in St John’s Church Monasterevin, with burial after to St Paul’s Churchyard Portarlington on Wednesday April 11.


Work is coming to an end in town shortly on all the projects, and it has been an exciting few months, it could not have been achieved only for the great volunteers who gave their time and energy so freely to the work that was carried out. The enthusiasm has been overwhelming and the committee would like to thank everyone for their support. The AGM of Portarlington ICA was held on Thursday April 12 in the Social Services Centre. The following members were elected for the coming year: president Mary Bergin, vice president Sadie Dempsey, secretary Kathleen Mangan, treasurer Mary Slattery. Committee: Breda Horan, Pauline Hooks, Patricia McGuinness, Lillie Champ and Mary Maher. Meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month in the Social Services Centre.
