COMMUNITY ALERT (CLOUGH)

A representative of the local community will be calling to households in the area during the coming week to inform them of the text alert system which is now in place. An optional small contribution towards the cost of community alert signs would be much appreciated.

ABC CLUB

ABC club meeting on Wednesday April 18 in St Patrick’s hall from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. All welcome.

AGHABOE GOLF SOCIETY

First outing will be in Rathdowney on April 21 from 9.45am to 10.45am, time sheet from 0871333524. Non-golf club members are very welcome. Other outings planned to Abbeyleix, Mountrath and Stackstown. Membership €10.

CLOUGH NATIONAL SCHOOL

Parents council will hold a sponsored walk and cake sale after 11am mass on Sunday April 22. The walk begins at 12 noon. All support is welcome.

PAINTING CLASSES

Painting classes will commence in Clough hall on Monday April 23 for 4 weeks from 2pm to 4pm. Names to Noreen Byrne, Maura McEvoy or Kathleen Walsh.

CLOUGH ICA

The AGM of Clough ICA was held on Thursday April 12. There was a good attendance. Votes of sympathy were passed with the Quigley family and Canice McEvoy on their recent sad bereavements. Mrs Betty Gorman was welcomed to the meeting. Minutes of the last AGM were read, also treasurer’s report for the year was given. The president in her report thanked all the officers and members for their help over the past year. Members will attend the federation meeting in Arles on April 25. Members will take part in a rally for Abbeyleix hospital on April 29.

The guild’s annual outing was discussed and there will be more details at the May meeting.

Mrs Betty Gorman presided over election of officers, officers elected were president Noreen Byrne, vice president Maureen Dobbyn, secretary Maura McEvoy, assist. secretary Mary Dunne, treasurer Kathleen Walsh and assist. treasurer Kitty Hogan. Competition winners Nora Hyland, Peggy Bergin. Raffle winners Anna Bergin, Sheila Coonan, Noreen Byrne and Teresa Phelan. Next meeting is on May 10.

ABBEYLEIX HOSPITAL

Rally on Sunday, May 29. Floats, banners, bikes etc. are welcome. The rally begins at 2pm from the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel and continues to the hospital on the Ballinakill Rd. Music and entertainment is planned before and after the event.

WOODENBRIDGE COMMUNITY ALERT

A meeting of Woodenbridge district community alert will be held on Thursday April 26 in St Patrick’s Hall Ballacolla at 9pm. Guest speaker will be Jim O’Brien from Laois Partnership on the change over from analogue to digital TV. Information will also be available on alarms etc.
