The first Get Fit For Summer fun run took place on Wednesday evening with almost 200 participants but over 200 if you include the much loved pooches. An absolutely fantastic turnout with a brilliant atmosphere. Well done to all who took part and thanks to all who helped in any way to make the 4k fun run a success. A second run/walk will take place Thursday April 26 in Ballyroan with registration in Whelan’s from 6.15pm and this fun run/walk will be 5k. Adults and children are invited to come along especially those who have embarked on a healthier lifestyle to get in shape for summer. Further information on these and the other fun runs can be found on the Ballyroan Abbeyleix & District Facebook page. If anyone is interested there is a walking/jogging group meeting in the Manor Hotel car park Monday and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. Club training continues Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in Ballyroan GAA grounds.

Thanks to everyone who supported the recent table quiz. For those who supplied spot prizes, filled tables and to Frank Delaney quiz master who did a great job. All those who had originally applied for the alarm systems have had their applications accepted. The table quiz helped towards raising funds which are needed so that alarms can be provided for more of those in need. Cards will be distributed shortly highlighting how to make your home and community more secure and will include the community alert number which can be contacted along with the Abbeyleix Garda Station if anything suspicious is observed.

As a fundraising for the above local amenity Laois Friends would like to encourage participation in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on June 4. For those interested in partaking in this fundraising initiative and more information on the amenity please contact Michael Deevy on 0578627062 or check out the website
