Plans have been announced for the first ever Laois Mental Health Awareness.

Plans have been announced for the first ever Laois Mental Health Awareness.

Hosted by the Laois Community Forum, the week will be called Laois Connects and will take place from September 15-22. The week is being held to highlight the importance of taking care of mental health but also to develop ways to help connect engage with their community and professionals who can help.

The week will include talks and seminars on issues relating to good mental health, which tie in with the main themes of Connects or Community, Ourselves, Nature, Nurture, Engage, Coping, Talking and Support).

Key Speakers will take part in many seminars and workshops around Laois and various activities will be available from walks and yoga to meditation and art therapy.

All events will be free to the public, some need to be booked in advance.

Laois Connects will be held in conjunction with the Laois Mental Health Collaborative Group, which works under auspices of Laois County Development Board.

Other partners include the HSE, Mental Health Ireland, SHINE, GROW, Laois County Council, Laois Partnership Company Ltd., Laois Sports Partnership and Laois VEC.

The event came about as a result of another community forum event held in 2010 called Minding our Mental Health.
