Sunday will be a special day for Ossory Cycling Club. We are about to hold our first ever Sportive over 100K and 50K. Weather permitting we are expecting a very large group of cyclist of between 200 and 300 to travel. Both events will leave from the local GAA centre, the 100k will depart at 10am travelling to Mountrath, The Cut, Clonaslee, Cadamstown, Kinnity, Roscrea, Borris in Ossory and back to the GAA centre. This course is quite demanding and is more suited to the more experienced cyclist. The 50K will depart at 11am travelling to Ballacolla, Aghaboe, Larry’s cross down bog road, left to The Pike of Rushall, Borris in Ossory out Roscrea road to first roundabout, left back to Rathdowney. This course will be more suited to the beginner cyclist. There will be food stops on both events, the 100K will be in Kinnity and the 50K will be in The pike of Rushall. On returning back to the GAA centre food will be served again. We hope to see many locals out on the streets to support the cyclist. The vastly improving Derek Byrne travelled to Oughterard to cycle a three day tour, the first day was over 130K followed by a 10k time trial on Sunday morning, and on Sunday afternoon a 100K. Finally Monday he cycled 100k. The tour travelled through the very scenic Connemara, he was up against some of the most experienced cyclist in the country finishing in 20th position out of 160 cyclist.

are planning another march on Sunday, April 29. If you are in a position to help with stewarding and crowd control on the day or know anyone else who could pleas ring Mick Creagh 087 9407573. We are encouraging all clubs and associations to turn up in force wearing their club colours or uniform. If you are not a member of a club why not get together with a few friends and go in fancy dress. We hope to create a carnival atmosphere and there will be live music on the day. We want to see lots of banners stating your view (nothing illegal) on this unjust closure. It’s your hospital too. If you are not in a position to get to the march or help please ask your friends to try to get to Abbeyleix on that date to protest about this proposed closure.

In association with An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, will run until Friday April 20. Litter-pickers, bags and gloves will be provided to groups, schools and individuals who will be taking part in clean-ups for more details please contact John King on 0857207066.
