The Measure of Stradbally’ with former NCAD graduate artist in residence Vera McEvoy. ‘Marks’ workshop with Karen Hendy. ‘Shadow Puppetry’ workshop with artist Lorraine Walsh. ‘Connections’ workshop with artist Gemma Guihan. ‘Perceptions’ workshop with Cóilín Rush. Music and spoken word performances in the library at 7pm. Laois Open Door Theatre will present a selection of drama and comedy intermixed with original music showcased and performed by The Laois Songwriters collective. LATE DR SEAN BOYLE

The death occurred (suddenly) at his residence, on August 27 of Dr Sean Boyle, (Ballydavis, Portlaoise, and formerly Arranmore Island, Donegal). Dr Sean, predeceased by his wife Margaret, sadly missed by his son Colin, brothers Brendan (Carndongh, Donegal), Patrick (Chapelizod, Dublin), sister Lena Ward (Glasnevin, Dublin), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. His remains were reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally until removal to the Church of The Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Tuesday and following funeral mass on Wednesday 29, his remains were interred afterwards to Oakvale Cemetery. Dr Sean practiced in the surgery, Court Square, Stradbally for a number of years.

HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING

Laois Hospice coffee morning will be held on Thursday, September 20 in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally from 9am to 1pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated. All monies collected in Laois go to fund services in Laois.

COMMUNITY GAMES UPDATE

Well done to all the athletes from our area who competed for Laois at the national finals in Athlone recently. Dillon Byrne, Conor Whelehan, Justin Lalor and John Clancy u/16 4x100 relay team, Noah Delaney, Killbeg Manor u/8 80 mtrs, Jake Bickerdike, The Green u/14 hurdles and Jessica Hewitt, The Glebe u/10 60 mtrs hurdles. A big thank you to Jim Whelehan for giving up his time as relay manager for the lads once again it was much appreciated. On board also were Claire O’Neill (female county manager) and Anna O’Neill, Joe Lacey and Jake Byrne who worked as u/18 track volunteers for the weekend. Congratulations to our county medal winning team mates on their great preformances over the weekend.

STRADBALLY YOUTH CENTRE

We are re-opening on Thursday, September 6 from 7pm - 9pm refreshed and with new hopes and ambitions for youths. New members welcome from 6th class upwards. Existing members and new members will have to pick up a new enrolment form on opening night. Please note volunteers and help are desperately needed. FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB

Stradbally Flower and Garden Club are holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 5 in St Joseph’s Hall at 8pm and as this is the first meeting after the summer break they will expect a good attendance. Tea and a biscuit will be served.

NARROW GAUGE RAILWAY

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s Narrow Gauge Railway will be up and running on October bank holiday Sunday and Monday, October 28 and 29.

PARISH GAELS FUNDRAISER

Stradbally Parish Gaels are holding a social night in the Napper Tandy, Stradbally on Saturday, Sepember 8 commencing at 9pm sharp. Food and music on the night. Admission is 5 and your support would be much appreciated.

WORLD SUICIDE DAY

World Suicide Day will be held on Monday, September 10. The aim of this day is to promote better understanding and awareness of the issues involved in suicidal behaviour.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Annie O’Neill, Church Avenue on the death of her brother Richard Ging, who died last week.

MONDAY NIGHT PRAYER GROUP

The Monday night prayer group resumed on Monday night, September 3 in the Nun’s Chapel and continues every Monday night from 7.30pm.

MEALS ON WHEELS

The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone, collectors, contributors, etc for making their annual draw a great success. First prize went to Cathal Maher who won €400 and other winners included Joe Costello, Liam Wright, Shauna and Clodagh Buggie, Shane Maher and Esther Rock.

IRISH DANCING CLASSES

Irish dancing classes will resume in Timahoe Hall on this Friday, September 7 at 6pm, please note change of time. Also in Vicarstown Community Hall on Saturday, September 8 at 1.30pm.
