STUDENTS from Mountmellick Community School have taken part in ‘Trad For Trocaire’, a fund raising initiative which took place during the first two weeks in October.
Members of the MCS trad group performed two sessions in Portlaoise on Wednesday October 10, starting at the Kyle Shopping Centre and then later at the Laois Shopping Centre.
Dearbhla Dunne, Rebecca Williams, Keeley Mullen and Grace Hartnett entertained shoppers and staff with a selection of jigs, reels, hornpipes and airs, with the addition of a few Irish ballads performed by Dearbhla Dunne and Mountmellick Community School’s music teacher, Mr Andrea Sacchi.
Organisers extended a special thanks to bucket girls Hannah McCann and Nicole Barry, who helped raise over one hundred and fifty euro during two hours of tireless work. All money raised will be donated to Trocaire.
The Mountmellick Community School choir will perform a selection of Christmas tunes alongside the school’s trad group in the Laois Shopping Centre on Saturday December 8.
