Laois LEAF (Laois Environmental Action Forum) will hold their AGM on Wednesday November 14 at 8pm in O’Loughlins Hotel where guest speaker Andy Dunne, chairperson of Laois Farm Forestry Growers Group will speak about the growing popularity of the role of forests in a sustainable future and will be available to answer any questions the public might have.
There are amazing steps being taken by businesses, communities, the council and individuals in Laois to build sustainable community, economy and ecology.
Over the past few months LEAF have promoted and encouraged this work as well as educating people on the myriad of environmental issues that affect Laois citizens.
Abbeyleix has received awards as a Sustainable Community; Communergy at Mounmellick Community School won the ‘One Good Idea’ award; Ports Vision 2020 is plotting a sustainable course for Portarlington; CJ Sheeran took the Green Initiatives Award; METAC of Mountrath are a leading educator in Sustainable energy systems; Portlaoise Credit Union are promoting green energy loans; there are Grow It Yourself, GIY, groups, bee keepers, allotments, community gardens, mens shed - all contributing to a lower carbon lifestyle and sustainable county.
Everyone in Laois is welcome to the AGM of LEAF to hear what the network has done in the last year, what their plans are for 2013 and to join the network.
LEAF is the only open network for individuals, businesses and community groups to share, learn and co-operate in promoting and building sustainable practices in Laois.
Given the level of interest and interaction over the past few months we look forward to 2013 and the role of LEAF in a sustainable Laois.
