STRADBALLY AND DISTRICT ANGLERS MEETING

A general meeting of the Stradbally & District Anglers will be held in St Mary’s Hall on Thursday, April 4 starting at 8pm sharp. All members are asked to attend and new members are very welcome.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Our first gold medal of the year came from Chloe Mills, The Glebe in u/10 modelmaking. Stradbally entered two u/14 teams in Laois quiz and our team came out winners on 78 points. Our second team finished in fourth place which they were well pleased with. Great results were also achieved in the Laois art finals held recently with both Margaret Oxley and Denis Shaughnessy winning gold at u/14. Well done also to Bebhain O Driscoll bronze u/12 and Laura Devoy h/c, William Oxley also h/c. Congratulationsto the six area entrants who competed in the county

hand writing finals which were held on March 22.

At the Laois county final talent show held in the Mountmellick Arts Centre on, Stradbally entered 15 children in various events and their preformences were as entertaining as they were exceptional, which was reflected in their medal tally. In recitation Aoife Horgan and Orla Hennessey performed their individual pieces with Orla receiving a well deserved gold medal and she now represents Laois at the national finals. In drama/comedy sketch a cleverly put together Mrs Brown’s comedy show wowed both the judges and audience alike with comic one liners, topical issues and excellent acting skills notably Aoife Horgan as Mrs Brown securing the cast a well deserved gold medal. Well done to Zandra Horgan who organised this young troupe of actors.

Daniel Delaney, Vicarstown gave an exceptional display of solo disco dancing and earned Daniel a well deserved silver medal at u/14 solo disco dance. In group singing the Corcoran brothers, Rathmore entertained the audience with a lovely rendetion of ‘A jug of Punch’. Daniel, David and Paddy won a well deserved silver medal. In Irish contemporary dance Orla Sheridan, Sinead and Sarah Larkin, Grainne McCaul, Bronagh Scully and Grace Scully secured a gold medal.

Many thanks for the use of both Timahoe and Vicarstown halls which our children used in their preperations for the talent show and to Zandra Horgan, area secretary. To all the parents who attended today and who prepared and presented your children so well the committee would like to thank you for helping us to realise what we always knew, in that Stradbally area children have got talent.

Well done and good luck to all our national finalists, please continue to practice and perfect your events it was a pleasure for all of us to watch you perform, continued success to you all.

COLLECTION FOR AUTISM

The collection for autism on the weekend of March 23/24 raised €794. Many thanks to all who contributed and to the collectors.

CLUB LE CHEILE

Club le Cheile are running a social night on Friday, April 5 in Abbeyleix Golf Club from 8.30pm until 11.30pm. Music by Rock Solid (members of the Miami Showband). Admission is €5 and there will be a bus travelling from Stradbally. Eileen has more detailsl 086 1515325.

TIMAHOE ICA MEETING

A meeting of Timahoe ICA will be held on Monday, April 8 in St Brigid’s Hall commenciing at 8pm. New members welcome.

HOUSEBOUND

The housebound of the parish will be attended to on Friday, April 5.

SCOR NA BPAISTI

Scor na bPaisti takes place on Saturday, April 13 (venue to be decided). This competition is for primary school children only and the usual Scor rules and categories apply.

FORESTRY FESTIVAL FOR STRADBALLY

The Irish Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show 2013 will take place at Stradbally Hall Estate on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11. The show is a bi-annual event that will feature forest and woodland machinery with all the ancillary activities that go with tree growing and harvesting. The show will host the National Tree Climbing Championships and will feature the top tree surgeons competing for a place to represent their country at European and world events.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

First Holy Communion will be held in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Saturday, May 18, 2013 and in St Michael’s Church, Timahoe on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Lourdes 2013 - July 1-6, Portlaoise/small group from Stradbally. For more information contact 057 86 22458.

LAOIS FLEADH 2013

The Laois Fleadh 2013 will be held in Ratheniska and Stradbally on June 2. The committee would very much welcome any suggestions, ideas or volunteers to help to make this a great event. For more information contact Michael 087 9933162.

TREE PLANTING

Stradbally Spade Brigade planting of trees at the Stradbally Community Gardens (beside the allotments) has been postponed until Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 commencing at 12 noon due to site clearance work that was not finished for some of the larger tree planting sites around the country
