The Team Hope Children’s Shoebox Appeal is underway around the country. Completed shoeboxes can be dropped off at the Abbeyleix Golf Club Centra. The closing date for this year’s appeal is Monday, November 11. To participate, log on to www.teamhope.ie or contact Laois coordinator, Tania Thompson to get involved or to volunteer.
KIDS AND KOFFEE
‘Kids and Koffee’ parent and toddler playgroup takes place every Friday 10am - 12pm in the Ballyroan Community Hall. It costs just €3 per household and all parents, childminders and pre-school children are very welcome. Its a community-run group and a great place to meet and make friends over a cup of tea or beaker of juice! If you’d like to join us, call Kyra on 0860651485, or just come along.
Abbeyleix ICA will be celebrating 100 years of ICA in February. A book to document the history will be launched on Wednesday November 6 by national president, Liz Wall. It is important to note that the book is intended to document the major role Abbeyleix ICA played to enliven and enrich rural life for thier community and to have it as a social and historical reference for future generations. Abbeyleix are the first guild in the county and the third in the country to record this very significant event. The venue is heritage House, Abbeyleix at 7.30. All welcome.
Laois community forum awards
Application forms for the 2013 Laois Community Forum Awards are now available. Entry deadline extended to Thursday, November 7 before 5pm. There are five categories in the group/clubs section while there is also an Unsung Hero Award. Application forms can be downloaded from www.laoiscommunityforum.ie. The Leinster Express person of the Year Award will also be presented at the awards night.
Laois native and Ballymaloe chef Darina Allen will be in at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Thursday November 7 in support of Abbeyleix Golf Club.

Late Eddie DUGGAN
Condolences to the family of the late Eddie Duggan of Woodhurst, Tullyroe, Abbeyleix who died on October 17. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons Anthony and Eamonn, daughters Patricia, Eileen and Joan, sisters, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at his residence with removal to The Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for requiem mass. Funeral afterwards to St Patrick’s Cemetery.
