St Joseph’s National School
The election of the new parents association took place recently and the following parents were elected to serve for the next two years. Chairman Pat Kirby, vice chairman Cathal O’Donnell, secretary Grainne Foyle, asst secretary Rhoda Brogan, treasurer Mary Sheeran, asst treasurer Ray Fox, PRO Sheila Ryan, John Brogan, Ann Barry and Tony Doran.
Children’s Halloween Disco
The parents association are holding a disco for national school children, on Friday, November 1 in the PE hall from 7-9pm. Admission is €3 and refreshments will be served. The event will be fully supervised and parents are welcome to attend on the night. We look forward to seeing as many children as possible from the parish and surrounding area.
LAOIS COMMUNITY FORUM AWARDS
Application forms for the 2013 Laois Community Forum awards are now available. The entry deadline has been extended to Thursday, November 7 before 5pm. There are five categories in the group/clubs section while there is also an Unsung Hero Award. Application forms can be downloaded from www.laoiscommunityforum.ie.
At the last meeting of the gardening group, held on Thursday October 10, Fergal Fitzpatrick gave a demonstration on hard wood cuttings, followed by a general talk on garden preparation for next year.
Margaret Ryan gave a demonstration on the making of decorative boxes from used cards.
Raffle winners; 1st: Bridget Gorman, 2nd: Ina Keeshan 3rd: Margaret Keenan. The next meeting will be held on Thursday November 21 in St Canice’s Hall at 8pm. A demonstration on the making of Christmas arrangements will be given on the night. New members are always welcome.
Borris in Ossory Bridge Club meets every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.

Members of Borris in Ossory ICA will be filling shoeboxes for the Team Hope Christmas Children’s Shoebox Appeal in St Canice’s Hall on Thursday November 7. Anyone wishing to donate items for the shoeboxes can do so by contacting any ICA member. This is a very deserving charity which provides Christmas gifts to needy children abroad who might not otherwise receive a visit from Santa Claus.
THE LATE MRS SADIE DELANEY RIP
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Lily Sheeran, Main Street, Borris in Ossory on the death of her sister, the late Mrs Sadie Delaney, Camross, Portlaoise. Her death took place on Saturday October 19 at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Her remains reposed at her residence until removal to St Fergal’s Church, Camross on Monday evening. The chief celebrant at her Concelebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday was her son Rev Fr Martin Delaney PP Rathdowney. Burial took place immediately afterwards in the local cemetery. The late Sadie, who was pre-deceased by her husband Denis is deeply regretted by her family Michael, Pat, Brendan, Mona, Vera and Fr Martin, her sister Lily (Sheeran), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.
FIVE YEAR CLUB PLAN
Borris in Ossory/Kilcotton GAA launch a five year plan on Saturday, November 2 at 8pm the St Joseph’s Primary School hall. The plan includes key elements of how the club will be run in areas such as games and coaching, fundraising, development, PR/culture and administration. The proposals are based on the feedback obtained from the club forum held earlier in the year. Laois GAA Chairman Gerry Kavanagh will launch the Plan and all are welcome. Tea and refreshments served.
The October meeting of Killasmeestia ICA Guild took place on Wednesday October 2, presided over by Margaret Ryan. A report on the recent federation meeting in Cullohill was given by Margaret Ryan. Plans for Christmas party night were discussed, the venue to be decided at a later date. The competition winner was Frances Lalor and Marie Dowling was the raffle winner. Supper was provided by Carol Sinnott. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday November 6 at 7pm.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament each Tuesday in St Canice’s Church, Borris-in-Ossory from 10am-3pm. Adoration takes place in Killasmeestia Church on Thursdays from 9.30am - 3pm and in Knockaroo Church on Tuesdays between 2pm - 4pm.

LATE MRS MARY WHELAN
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Breda Dollard, Castle Avenue, Borris in Ossory on the death of her mother, the late Mrs Mary Whelan, (nee Comerford) Moore Street, Rathdowney, Co. Laois. Her remains reposed at her residence until removal on Monday to the Church of the Holy Trinity, Rathdowney. Funeral Mass took place on Tuesday followed by burial in Bealady Cemetery.The late Mrs Whelan, who was predeceased by her husband Michael is deeply regretted by her daughter Breda (Dollard), son Pat, son-in-law Brendan, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister Grace (O’Malley), sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Dancing for fun with Maureen Culleton will take place each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm-4pm. All are welcome.
A Halloween party will take place in Ballaghmore Hall on Wednesday October 30, starting at 7.30pm. A great night is assured with fancy dress, party games, disco, music etc. All are welcome.
The hall in St Joseph’s NS Borris in Ossory is available for renting by groups in the coming months. Any group or individual who wish to avail of the hall must have their own insurance. The hall can be booked by ringing the school secretary on 0505 41331
