The parish lotto with a jackpot of €10,850 was not won on October 21. Winners of the small draw were €30 the four amigo’s c/o Castle Arms Hotel, €25 Mary Bergin and €20 Daniel Keane.

The lotto of November 04 will be held in Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow with a possible jackpot of €11,300. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot

Cookery with Darina Allen

Cullohill born and raised celebrity chef from the Ballymaloe Cookery School, Darina Allen and Rory O’Connell will give a cookery master class in the Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix on Thursday November 7 starting at 7.30pm in support of the Abbeyleix Golf Club.

Tickets are €25 each and are available from the hotel and members of the golf club. A great night is assured.

Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers held their last fishing competition of the season for the Pat Gaughan Memorial Cup. It was a pike fishing competition and the winner was Patrick O’Regan, 2nd Pat Dunphy and 3rd Ian Drennan. The members are now waiting anxiously for the fisherman of the year winner to be announced.

Charity Dance

In aid of Fatima invalid fund Wednesday October 30, in The Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow. Featuring Catriona and High Country and Solitaire, and guest Damien Bowe and Jason Travers. Raffle with donated prizes, dancing, tea served, door prize and free bus from Lyster square 8.30pm. €8 per person.


Application forms for the 2013 Laois Community Forum Awards are now available. Entry deadline extended to Thursday, November 7 before 5pm. There are five categories in the group/clubs section while there is also an Unsung Hero Award. Application forms can be downloaded from www.laoiscommunityforum.ie.

Team Hope Shoebox Appeal

The Team Hope Children’s Shoebox Appeal is underway around the country. Completed shoeboxes can be dropped off in Portlaoise at Axa, the parish centre, Tesco, and TK Maxx; in Abbeyleix at the golf club or library; in Mountmellick at the library or the post office; and in Mountrath at Centra.

Set Dancing

Set dancing takes place in the parish hall in Urlingford every Monday night from 8pm to 11pm with live music by Danny Webster. Newcomers are welcome as most sets are demonstrated by Declan Doocey for the first hour.
