DOVE HOUSE GARDEN FETE
Dove house are holding their annual garden fete on Sunday, June 10 from 2pm. The group welcome items for our bric-a-brac, unwanted gifts, household items, books, toys will be appreciated. Please do not send in clothes. Thank you for your continued support. Any items can be left into Bernie and Aine in Dove House.
Promises to deliver yet another June bank holiday weekend of extraordinary entertainment with music, film, comedy, art, theatre, craft, markets, street performances, sports and much more. IRISH KIDNEY ASSOCIATION
The Laois Branch of the Irish Kidney Association wishes to express sincere thanks to all those who contributed so generously to the recent collection. The Church Gate collection raised €710 and the Donor Awareness raised €300. Also thanks to the volunteer collectors, the help is greatly appreciated.
ABBEYLEIX ACORNS SPECIAL OLYMPICS CLUB
The club was formed in 2009 and meet once a week on Wednesday at 7pm in the park Parish Hall. If anyone wishes to become a member, as a volunteer or an athlete call down and visit any Wednesday or contact 087 2871703/057 87 31241.
ABBEYLEIX PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES
The annual pilgrimage takes place on June 29 with return on July 4. Cost at €679. Booking forms available from Knocknamoe House or committee members Willie Murphy, Sean and Nora Carroll, Noeleen Lynam, John Jo and Mary Fennelly, Cormac Lally, John Phelan and Fr. Ahearn.
HOME BAKING COMPETITION
As part of the Abbeyfest on Sunday, June 3 in Heritage House we will be reviving an almost forgotton tradition in Abbeyleix. We will be holding a Home Baking / Cookery Competition for both adults and children. We will have 26 categories covering breads , cakes , biscuits, jams and chutneys. Entries to be submitted at Heritage House before 11.00am on Sunday 3rd. Cash Prizes kindly sponsored by Odlums. Entry forms available in the Library and on www.abbeyfest.com
Abbeyfest presents an afternoon of literary delights at The Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix, on Sunday, June 3. Featuring Laois Writers reading their latest work. Event: 4pm to 5.30pm. Admission Free. Light refreshments served.
CHURCH GATE COLLECTION
The Church Gate collection in Abbeyleix for The Adi Roche Chernobyl Childrens appeal raised €500 an increase on last year. A big thank to all who contributed so generously.
TIDY TOWNS JUDGING
Judging in this years competition will take place around the June Bank Holiday. It was great to see so many premises getting a facelift in recent days. We appeal to all to help us in our quest to present a neat and tidy town. We would appreciate any little extra help . Please keep the perimeter of your business clean .You could adopt a tree policy. We have beautiful lime trees on the Main Street in Abbeyleix that require a little TLC so if you you have one outside your business please keep the base of the tree weed free.
Following on last year’s success in winning the top prize in the annual Co-operation Ireland All-Island Pride Of Place Awards. Abbeyleix along with entries from Meath, Clare and Wicklow have been selected by the Co-Operation Ireland’s Pride of Place committee to represent our country at international level in the LivCom Awards this year. check out, LivCom.com Awards
