A table quiz in aid of St Peter’s Church, Portlaoise will take place on Friday, June 8 at 8.30pm in Grellan Delaney’s, Main Street. €40/table or €10/person. Raffle on the night. All are welcome.
If you are looking to have fun with your family and your dogs, then look no further than the upcoming Fun Dog Show to be held on the afternoon of Sunday, 3 June at Chestnut Grove, Borris Road, Portlaoise (directly opposite Forestpark). All categories of dog will be catered for, as well as children of all ages (4-94!), as long as they have a dog. Registration of dogs is from 12 noon until 2pm at a cost of €3 per dog per category. Portlaoise branch members had an enjoyable week-end at the county Fleadh in Clonaslee. The recently formed branch had particular success in the group competitions. The Triogue Senior Ceili Band was joined by an adult groupa ceoil which also won first place to qualify for the Leinster fleadh to be held in Enniscorthy on July 15th. The committee is especially proud of the younger members who qualified in various events and the Grupa Ceoil u-15 which included up to 20 members some of whom were unable to participate due to family commitments.

K&Diocesan Pilgrimage to IEC 2012: Tuesday, June is the diocesan day at the Congress. Parishioners are invited to make the pilgrimage to the RDS. Book via the parish centre and also get information about transport. The adult ticket is €30. For those attending the Youth Space (c.17-25 yrs old) the ticket is €10. (The trip is separate from the concluding Celebration in Croke Park on June 17).
HEATH COMMUNITY ALERT
An important meeting of the Heath Community Alert will be held in the Church Hall on Tuesday, June 5 at 8pm. The operation of the alert system will be discussed and handouts will be available. Your attendance is requested.

The Laois branch of the Irish Kidney Association wish to express sincere thanks to all those who contributed to our recent Organ Donor Awareness & Church Gate Collections. Many thanks to our volunteer collectors. The Church Gate collection in Portlaoise raised €2,254, the Heath raised €304.50 and €166 in Ratheniska. The Donor Awareness collection was €4,000.
Mental Health Awareness Training for Community Leaders: Mental Health Ireland, in conjunction with Laois Partnership, is running a one day work shop for community leaders and community workers in Respond Community Centre, Mill Court, Green Lane, Portlaoise on Monday June 11, 10am-4pm. The aim of this workshop is to train community activists to impart knowledge to community groups on mental health related issues. As part of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, Portlaoise Active Age Group and Children from Emo Primary school will perform together a series of Viennese dances including the Quadrille and Blue Danube Waltz at the Parish Centre this Wednesday, May 30 at 11am.
All travelling to France on September 12, please attend the information meeting in the Parish Centre on Monday, June 4 at 5pm. June 14 - Garden Party Mount Wolsey. Bus departs at 11.30am. €25 including lunch and dancing. Bowling every Monday in St Marys from 2-4pm. Cards continue at 10.30am in the Parish Centre Tuesday is Bridge and Thursday is Whist.

Condolences to the family of the late Sean Delaney, Grattan Court, Portlaoise and retired publican, Market Sq, who passed away on May 25 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Deeply regretted by his loving family, brother Colm (Dromineer), sisters Phil Kingston (Abberyleix), Geraldine Doyle (Athy), and Brede O’Brien, (Clonmel), extended family and a large circle of friends. Reposed at his sister Phil’s residence at Ballyroan Rd, Abbeyleix and the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise last Sunday with removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass on Monday followed by Interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
