PRE CHRISTIAN HUT BUILDING
Come and learn how to build a pre-Christian hut. See what the built heritage was like a long time ago. Aimed at children aged 8+. The workshop will take place outside, please dress appropriately. The launch of Ronnie Mathews’ second book on Portarlington, telling of the great many changes that have taken place in the town during the 20th Century, will take place on Tuesday August 21 at 8pm. DISCOVER BUILT HERITAGE

The Blueberry Festival is taking place on September16, it is promised to be a fun filled day, with stalls promoting local food, craft, art and community groups. Congratulations to Olivia Sheerin who won the Durrow Festival 5k recently with an impressive run, also well done to John Fenlon who won the Belvedere House and Gardens 5k in Mullingar.
Congratulations to the clients and staff of Oak House Portarlington who were recently awarded with certificates for their success in FETAC Level 3. Nineteen clients were so proud to receive their awards from Willie Murphy president of Port Lions Club. Manager of Oak House Pauline Magee congratulated all for their great achievements. She also thanked the Lions Club for all their support over the years. A presentation was also made to Jack Kenny who has been a long time volunteer to Oak House, and who also celebrated his 80th birthday recently.
Fun day takes place in the People’s Park on Sunday August 19. Plenty of free activities for all the family.
Recently the club enhanced the park with a picnic table and bench. The local Lions Club have now 18 members and have gone from strength to strength.
