FIRST CONFESSIONS

First Confessions will take place in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory on Tuesday, March 5 at 8pm and in Killasmeestia on Thursday, March 7 at 7.30pm.

ENROLMENT FOR CONFIRMATION

Enrolment for confirmation candidates in Borris in Ossory parish will take place in St Canice’s Church on Saturday March 9 at 7pm.

MASS FOR LENT

There will be Mass at 7.30pm in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory every evening during Lent. This is to facilitate parishioners who would like to attend Mass every day during Lent. There will be no morning Mass except on Saturday mornings at the usual time of 10am.

PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

The Ossory Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from May 22 to May 27. Bookings can be made by contacting Eleanor at Glenmore@ossory.ie or by phoning 051-880414 weekdays except Wednesday from 10.30am to 2.30pm. the fare is €735 including the bus to and from the airport.

WOMENS WALKING GROUP

The Borris in Ossory Womens Walking Group are holding their registration night for this year’s Flora Womens Mini Marathon in Dublin on Mon June 3rd in St Canice’s Hall on Tuesday, March 5 from 7.30 - 8.30pm. Cost of registration this year is €18 for walkers, joggers and runners. Registration forms will be available on the night.ICA RAFFLE

Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s annual fundraising raffle will take place on Wednesday, March 27. There will be numerous prizes and tickets are now on sale from all the members.

ICA TRIP

Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s annual trip will take place from Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, July 18. The venue this year will be South Wales, staying in a four star hotel in Cardiff and the trip will take in many places of interest over the few days. The cost will be €385 which includes coach with guide from Borris in Ossory and ferry from Rosslare to Fishguard. Names and deposits of €100 should be given to Lily Sheeran as soon as possible. THE LATE MICHAEL RAFTER RIP

The death took place at the Regional Hospital, Tullamore on Thursday, February 21 of Michael (Mick) Rafter, Ballymeelish, Ballybrophy, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. His remains reposed at his residence until removal to the Church of the Assumption, Killasmeestia on Friday, February 22. His Funeral Mass on Saturday was concelebrated by Dean Seamus McEvoy, assisted by Rev Fr. Peter Daly and Rev Fr. Robert Fletcher. After Mass burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.

The late Mick was a member of the farming community and was very popular with both young and old. He loved animals and was a keen judge of livestock. He was a regular attender at the local marts where he made many friends and where his advice was often sought. Mick had a great interest in all sports especially hurling and Coursing. Members of the Coursing club formed a guard of honour at his funeral.

He is deeply regretted by his brother Timmy (Longford), his sisters Lillie Mulhall (Coolnacart, Portlaoise), Mary Rafter (Canada), Tessie Sharpe (England) and Pauline (Maher) Shinrone, nieces, nephews, cousins, also his close neighbours Abe and Helen Kavanagh and their family, his relatives and a wide circle of friends.

COUNTRY MARKETS

Borris-In-Ossory Country Markets takes place each Saturday in St Canice’s Hall from 10.30am to 1.30pm, with a wide variety of produce, home baking, jam, vegetables etc.

PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE

The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Catherine and Maureen, Bridget Gleeson and Mary Jo Ryan, 2nd - John and Catherine Dalton, Willie O’Reilly and Larry Dunne, Jack and Mick, P.J.Holohan and Michael Muldowney, 10th game – Paddy Sheeran and Tom Ryan, 20th game – Sean and Anna Bourke.

The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended from the club to the family and relatives of the late Michael (Mick) Rafter, Ballymeelish, Ballybrophy who died recently. The late Mick was always a great supporter of the big card games organised by the club.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS GAME

A reminder about the annual 25 card game in aid of Multiple Sclerosis which will take place on Thursday, March 7 in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm. This worthy cause can be supported by buying a ticket, giving a donation or sponsoring a raffle prize on the night. Tickets at €10 will be on sale for this event. DAFFODIL DAY

Daffodil Day this year takes place on Friday, March 22 and organisers in the Borris in Ossory area would like to see more people volunteering to help sell the daffodils. BADMINTON

Badminton continues every Wednesday night in the school PE Hall between 7.30pm and 10.30pm. New members welcome.

Juvenile GAA

Registration for juveniles will take place next Saturday, march 9 at 10.30am in Borris in Ossory Club Rooms.
