CHILDREN from Portarlington’s Presentation Primary School responded wholeheartedly to Laois Sports Partnership’s recent activity challenge.
As part of National Active Schools Week, Laois Sports Partnership asked each primary school in the county to undertake an activity challenge, and to make a donation to the Sports Inclusion Disability Programme.
On Friday May 3, 492 children from the school walked to school, accompanied by teachers and parents. Older pupils took smaller ones by the hand, and the pace was set to suit the less able walkers. There was the added bonus of having had no homework the previous night, so schoolbags had been left in school. There was a great fun atmosphere, as the different ‘walking bus’ routes converged on Station Road, where principal Mrs Margaret Walsh welcomed the arrivals. A total of €435 was raised for the Sports Partnership’s Inclusion Disability Programme which is art funded by the Irish Sports Council with the remaining 50% funding having to be raised locally by Laois Sports Partnership.
